There are a few rumours flying around that QF have a surplus of SO's and in a few weeks leave without pay may be offered. Does any have any more info or had experence leaving the rat for a few years?

God bless Carmen:}

Maybe on the 'Bus or the Classic this is possible, but on the 744 where most S/O's are emplyed they are flying a divisor of 174 - hardly a sign of surplus crew on that fleet.

LWOP a tremendous initiative. Lets see new pilots coming to 'the group' who are being trained up in Malaysia whilst current drivers being told to eat dodgy vindaloos. Nice one. Great Human Resource management! Still, I'm sure current QF drivers will welcome the new curry night initiative started by the JPC as a welcome back when the 787s turn up.
And don't forget this QF drivers....."If you want any 787 flying, you will fly more, you will be more flexible and you will fly for less!" Welcome the new age of negotiation qf style.
Hmmm lets see sitting on 800 hours for the year. Looking good for all of the above!:ok:

Offer me a solution to the problem Aussie. The biggest problem is Qf managements failure to address the real legacy issues facing the company. ie It is not that the pilots are necessarily inefficient, on the contrary, however the manpower required, read office empire builders, to deliver the requirements for a pilot to go to work.
No doubt you are thinking what the hell am I on about.

A comparison of pilots vs number of airframes vs admin/office workers/managers against other airlines would be a great place to start.
Unfortunately the deal ushered in by the jpc does nothing to change any of these things. People will argue that Jetstar is lean and mean. Well yes but they currently cannot survive on their own. The pilots conditions are an easy target for those that suffer from shorttermitis.

We all fear change, however change is about the only constant we have these days in aviation.
We react/respond differently to scenarios based on our own experiences so we need to allow others to express their views without judgement.
Remember the basis of philosophy about our own truth and that of others.
Cheers all
