Display Driver Problem

Have recently suffered some display problems on the laptop - everything on the screen becomes large and the computer subsequently crashes.

I then get a blue screen with lots of text - including 'the display driver is stuck in a loop'. The text ati2dvag also appears. Restarting cures the problem, for a short time and then the whole thing happens again.

Sounds very much like you need to re-install the ATI Display drivers that may have become corrupted.

Check these :

ATI Support (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27) - Where you can download a tool to analyse exactly which driver you need, prior to uninstalling the xureent driver(s), downloading and installing the correct one(s), plus a Problem reporting wizard / analysis tool that can send details to ATI for further advice.

I'm pretty sure the infinite loop fix is what I need to carry out, however I can only get as far as....

Right click-mouse over My Computer
Properties
Hardware(Tab)
Device Manager(button)
Click [+] next to System devices

.....Here as CPU to AGP Controller doesn't seem to be listed on the system devices list. Now I'm really confused !! :confused:

right-mouse on CPU to AGP Controller (or whatever your controller is called, mine was SiS AGP)
Update Driver(button)

Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Next(button)
Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
Next(button)
Select PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge
Next(button)
Finish(button)
Reboot.

Suggest you try contacting ATI first to see what they advise, and also post details of the Laptop you are using (Make / Model / Spec etc ) here in case anyone else has some ideas.

Probably way off here, but I would also consider a possible thermal problem if it works, then crashes, works.......... etc..

Fan(s) running OK?

PC, try a System Restore to a time before the problem appeared.

Go to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Choose a date prior to the problem and see if this helps. You can always undo the restoration if it does not help.

You may have a hardware problem. The video daughter board may just need re-seating or as Frostbite suggests, a cooling issue.
