Hello

My airline operates a long-range sector in Perth, using YPAD as an alternate. This is really fuel-hungry. Does any operator of wide-bodied aircraft use Kalgoorlie as an alternate? Is it capable of handling aircraft such as B777 or A340?

The Airservices documentation indicates that it might be OK, with 2000m runway, 45 wide.

Will the turning-pads at the end of the main runway allow a 180 turn?

Thanks

Have you tried emailing the airport manager? I'd suggest he's the person in the best position to answer those technical questions. Pavement strength is possibly an area of concern for those size aircraft.

A forward thinking QF driver put a 763 in one morning when Perth went out with mist. Was about Geraldton and reckoned back to Learmouth and return was too big a delay. Also a Connie has been in.

mikemal two problems steps and no customs/immigration, also on a typical Kal day you'll bake siting in the sun.

Thanks, Pom Pax. The airport manager was most helpful and I need to do some homework now to tie up the aircraft specs and the airport (turning circle, PCN, etc.).

Cheers
