Thought I should share this, to avoid someone else experiencing the same issue...
Booked my class 1 renewal for 14 October as my certificate says the medical runs out on 17 October. AME calls me yesterday to say his records indicate that my medical ran out at the end of August!:eek: I've done at least 40 hours between then and now.
Seems that the AME who saw me last year made a mistake when writing the expiry date on certificate.

Lesson learnt - check that your AME puts the right date on the certificate... and check your current medical too, just in case.
I spoke to the CAA this morning - they were really helpful and even phoned an AME to get me an immediate appointment for the renewal. :D They also confirmed this is not my fault and they will be speaking to the AME involved.
