The greatest band ever!!!!!!!!!!:ok:

Nah, mate!
Glenn Miller had better tunes.
AND I'd rather watch them. Went to a tribute concert in Bedford Corn Exchange (last venue for the Miller Band WITH Glenn Miller) on December 15, 1974 (thirty years to the day of his last flight). It was stupendous (and very moving).
You can keep your 'Elvis is still alive' - Glenn Miller WAS there that night!

Your question. Honest answer.

Given your stance there is very little point in attempting to explain.

Great titties, yes. Great band--NO!

Yes, there are opinions & here's mine: Stop being a musical retard & try & find a band (as opposd to a bunch of non instrument playing dorises picked for looks first & talent second) or two who actually create melody, rhythmn & beats coupled with lyrical ablity & charisma.

Start with Elvis, work your way through the Beatles, stop off at Queen, Sabbath & The Byrds. Have a look at Yes if you must, Peek at the Pistols, skip past Duran Duran, Have a long weekend in Madchester, buy Some Roses. Then get on one before heading for Ibiza via Somerset then when you're done, go back again & shake hands with Stevie, spend a little time with Afrika, Run & Snoop then wonder what you ever saw in pretty boys/girls with Sven Garly standing never very far away.:ok:

Please do give reasons to your veiw points!!!!!

Since you ask again, dearest BAforever, I will do my best to accomodate you; be however forewarned that the response to follow shall not be brief, but rather a well-reasoned and philisophical reply which shall require the entirety of my waning evening (it's now 10:49pm here), the remnants of my dwindling ale stock and a good deal of effort. What I ask of you in return is a commitment to ponder what I say well; be aware that if you do so it may alter forever your values and your perception of the system which has brought you to accept them.

Agreed?

Let me begin by saying I have nothing against Destiny's Child, or for that matter the Spice Girls or any other music that someone chooses to listen to. As you so eloquently proclaim, everyone has their own "personel" opinion... Freedom of choice is a great liberty, and you are indeed free to indulge that liberty, and your ears, with the sound of your choice.

This freedom that you so proudly proclaim is one that is universally embraced, and by no larger group than those young adults who, upon reaching adolescence or shortly thereafter, make every attempt to define themselves as a generation of their own. Music, no doubt since the day of stick on stone, has been a forerunner in burning the bridges that have bound mother to son, and father to daughter. By immersing themselves in an auditory world alien to their parents children have, in the immortal words of the Declaration of Independence, "...seperated themselves from the bonds which have held them, one to another" and redefined themselves in a world apart from the sphere of that in which they envision themselves to have been entombed as a child. With the advent of recorded music it was only natural that the stereo replace the nagging repetition of parent's harsh words and become a pablum for further 'growth'.

The rapid growth of the music industry since the 1960's lays testament to this claim, for ever since Buddy Holly and The Beatles, since Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presly the gap between the percieved morals of performers and those of despairing parents has only grown wider. This growing chasm has been capitalized on to an ever growing extent by those in the recording industry; fueled by the hunger for ever-increasing profits, the selection of who got recorded and produced has gradually drifted from an emphasis on quality to one of quantity. No longer must a 'musician' posess talent to become a star. That can be provided, nowadays, by the studio, with multitracking, overdubs, reverb and a slick multimillion dollar promotional campaign. By providing a stepping-stone from cradle to independence for teens and youg adults with an ever increasing amount of disposable cash labels are able to profit greatly without having to attend to issues such as quality, as long as the message to "break free" goes out loud and clear.

Look again at the videos you have posted. What meaning of substance do you see proclaimed? None. Just three rich girls in various modes of shopping, fighting, or fucxing. What is the listener (or viewer) intended to perceive? The faux rich atmosphere portrayed? Is the message contained therein that by associating with this music, or claiming to be it's afficianado, that somehow you, too, may aspire to this lifestyle? Indeed. Attractive perhaps to the seventeen year-old girl to whom these albums are marketed, they portray nothing bearing any semblance to reality for the majority of humanity. Music and music videos such as these serve only to sow seeds of confusion in young minds, doing nothing to reinforce values which will be critical later in life if one is to succeed in true love, marriage, or any other relationship of importance.

Fine, so you say, it's just music; and so it is, but given a choice as to fill my conscious waking hours, and thereby my subconscious mind, with images and ideals that will undoubtedly influence the rest of my life at some level, I prefer to select my surroundings with a bit more care. Craftsmanship and attention to detail have been replaced by and large in our society by mass-produced, stamped out made in China lookalikes, and this holds true in music as well. Unless you are willing to scratch away the painted veneer that is the image of such performers as Destiny's Child and look deeper for true excellence and achievement you will never understand what true musicianship entails.

I could provide you with a multitude of examples of those who have, often at great personal sacrifice, endeavored to produce the finest possible sound ever envisioned. At the moment I am sat listening to the latest effort of a man named John McLaughlin; his success came not without struggle, and he will never be considered by the mass-market to be a 'star'. Just as people will pay millions for a splash of random color on a canvas over a dingy masterpiece blossoming with detail and depth, so most will pass over this work. It is to their detriment, for in it's layers of intricate detail and depth is an emotion which transcends words, the product of a lifetime's achievement without error or apology, and no need to make excuses for what it is not. There is no make-up and no actors, except those who hold the instruments, and make them sing.

I know I will probably not influence you much with this post, a random interaction on an internet forum... Yet sometime ask yourself, what is it that you seek in your music, and see if it does not in some way parallel that which you seek in your life; certainly you deserve to search out the finest for all that you are.

gorgeous spotter, deepest apologies if I offended. "Titties" is not generally a part of my daily vocabulary. I chose it specifically in that post as a descriptive term related to the way the members of that particular group chose to display themselves and their bodies as a way to sell their product.

Congratulations rotty, a perfectly splendid post. At first I wondered why you be wasting all that effort on somebody who would have given up at the first paragraph, but I am familiar with the late night alcohol-fuelled desire to vent some frustration at the vacuity and spectacular superficiality of modern life, summed up nowhere better than in the music video industry. So even though it may have rather bypassed its ostensible target, I appreciated it!

By the bye, was that somebody who calls herself "gorgeous" and thrusts her frontal assets proudly to the fore in a photo thread for all to leer over who suggested the word titties may be sexist? God spare us! At least she appears to have helped with G-CPTN's depression so I suppose we can be grateful for that. :hmm:

Gotta say it...

Great thread :ok: Still laughing :p

And rotated, terrific post.

When any of the chickies in Destiny's Child can write a lyric like this, I'll concede their product has merit:

Sandy, that waitress I was seeing lost her desire for me.
I spoke with her last night,
She said she won't set herself on fire for me anymore.
She worked that joint under the boardwalk,
She was always the girl you saw boppin' down the beach with the radio.
The kids say last night she was dressed like a star in one of them cheap little seaside bars,
And I saw her parked with Loverboy out on the Kokomo.
Did you hear the cops finally busted Madame Marie,
For tellin' fortunes better than they do.
For me this boardwalk life is through,
You ought to quit this scene too.
Sandy, the aurora is rising behind us.
This pier lights our carnival life forever.
Oh love me tonight and I promise I'll love you forever.

~ Bruce Springsteen, 4th of July, Asbury Park.

I haven't a clue what possessed BAForever to proclaim these girls are a band, let alone how he could inject the word "best" with "Destiny's Child". They are a group (with changing members) put together by some clever marketing bods. Their "music" is the product of a manufacturing process, not a creative one. They're nothing but the front side of a product that's been written, produced and packaged for them. About all they do is get in front of a camera, wiggle their (delectabel, must be admitted) bodies in front of same and that's it. One would be surprised if their real voices sounds anything like what you hear on the radio - there's a more than good chance it's all been washed through some fancy computer which could make Louis Armstrong sound like Nana Mouskouri.

In short: It ain't a band - it's a product. They're not great, or best, or even good. They're good looking, nothing more or less. They have a talent for showing flesh, not singing. A personification of the age of botox and Big Brother, they are, for all intents and purposes, total and utter shyte.
