I am planning to get to Cape Town later this year to fly in one of the ex-RAF Lightnings at Thunder City. Used to watch them at Binbrook as a kid and now that Concorde has gone, one of the few remaining chances to go Mach 2.
Has anyone done this recently? Any suggestions or recommendations? The [email protected] e-mail is undeliverable at present - hope they have not shut up shop.
Also any suggestions of stuff to see / do while in the Cape area for 3-4 days is much appreciated.
Thanks!

They haven't shut up shop. Far from it - they had a 4-ship Lightning formation flying last weekend.
There's a video clip on this thread - Link (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=245329)

Tip: Arrange your flight for as soon as practicable after you arrive in Cape Town to give yourself the best chance of rescheduling if necessary.
They ask for full payment up front but, if the flight can't take place due weather, only refund 80%!
20% of the cost of a Lightning flight is a lot of money to lose.

"suggestions of stuff to see / do while in the Cape area for 3-4 days":

Table Mountain
The views are spectacular.
Tip: Go up on the first clear day after you arrive - you may not get another while you're there.
Even if the weather's good, there's often cloud lying across the mountain, known locally as the 'Tablecloth'.

Cape Point
Tip: Drive down one side of the Cape and back up the other. It's not much longer, and worth it.
If you drive down the Fish Hoek/Simon's Town side and back up the Atlantic side, you may get a beautiful sunset on your return journey.

Stellenbosch
Even if you're not interested in a winery tour, the scenery in the winelands is very beautiful.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
Delicious food and fine wines at very low prices, by UK standards anyway
Best in the evenings IMHO.

And, of course ..........

It's a very good way to see a lot of the Cape in a short time.

I can't comment on Thunder City Lightnings, but I was fortunate enough as a UAS cadet to ride XS452 (now one of Thunder City's T-birds) for 40 minutes, courtesy of 11 Squadron at Binbrook. Thanks again Tex and Ish!
Either the second or third most memorable experience of my teenage years...

Robben Island is a good trip. Nice boat ride across Table Bay and interesting seeing the famous prison.
