Hi all professionals,

I live by the side of the Tamaki Estury, Auckland, right under the flight path of the NZGB to NZAA route, and wonder if any pilots/passengers could possibly take a photo above Half Moon Bay Marina as they fly over, and upload it here?

I re-created a GBA flight on flight simulator and took these two screenshots of my area:

If possible I would like to compare the simulator to real life and see how accurate it is.

Also, what does NZGB Claris airfield look like in real life? In the sim it looks like this:

But I have never been able to find any photographs on the net showing the airfield.

Also, if you are in control of one of these aircraft that flies along the Tamaki Estuary- and it is within safety regulations etc- would it be possible to fly extra low over the Half Moon Bay area so I can get some photos? I am on college holidays for two weeks now and like to spend my afternoon sitting on my deck with my air scanner and binoculars.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this topic,
PW

i've got some barrier shots somehwere, but it has the beach at the end of runway 10 - when you take off you fly straight out over the sand and surf - very cool.

06/24 is grass, and the trees on 10 seem much closer and bigger.

have you looked on google earth? the res. is rubbish, but it gives you an idea of the layout

I have flown with GBA many times, so I'll have to look and see if I can find any photos taken in that area. But I have a photo of NZGB taken from a 172, in March this year, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/ju7ez/20060501_ji_NZGBMedium.jpg I have also uploaded it here! My Aviation (http://www.myaviation.net/search/photo_search.php?id=00695936)
Hope it helps.

Thanks for sharing that shot ju7ez! It was just what I was looking for :)

My next question is- do you have any shots from NZOX, Okiwi Station. It is an airport on flightsim, but I am not sure if it is used in real life.

Cheers!

Okiwi Station is used, not open throughout the winter due to the weather though. If I do find any photo's of Okiwi, they will only be ground shots, and really really old.
Cheers

Yep..
Your screenshot of Claris looks pretty real to me.. complete with the 'Valley of Death'...

Now just set the cloud base to 700' and shroud the hills in cloud...

I'm getting sweaty palms just looking at that screenshot...

into the valley of death taking off 28 with a 15kt crosswind from the south and reducing ceiling......

it's the good stuff pilots dream about :)
