Apparently on friday evening a bout on Eros...

Seems one of the Directors of W/A tried to assault a respected DE on the main apron...

Anyone know more info on this incident? It seems frightening! Guess no one is safe anywhere, what's the use then with all the security around an airport?

Eros - Security - interesting concept.

"All the security around the airport"
I think the possibilities of driving a home made bomb the size of a truck directly to the Government hanger wouldnt be difficult.

In anycase, It is indeed sad to hear of any head banging at the peaceful Eros airport.:=

Yep, it sure did happen!!

:eek: :ouch: :} :oh: ....:{

That old saying sure seems to be true "... you can take them out of the bush, but .......". Yes, do we need to elaborate? Seems to me the ex Koevoet directors are suffering from some excessive stress at work. Haven't quite figured out what the thing was about, will keep a listening watch however.
Regardless, seems as if WA is at their best once again ....

Hmmmmm, wonder what our favourite BigMac has to say about this. Probably sticking his head into the sand and ignoring the issue.

AS IN THE NAMIBIAN, 19/9/2006:

Fisticuffs on airport runway

DENVER ISAACS DRAMA unfolded at the Eros Airport in Windhoek on Friday when a senior employee of a local air service company allegedly punched a rival pilot in the face just before both were about to embark on separate flights to South Africa.

According to sources who claim to have seen the incident, Johan Steyn, director of flight operations at West Air Aviation, was seen disembarking from a DHL aircraft, walking up to the chief training captain of Bay Air Aviation on the apron and punching him in the face.
"The incident was seen by many witnesses on the apron," a source stated.
The incident was confirmed by a Police source on duty at the Eros Airport, who yesterday saw it recorded in the Police's incident report book.
It could not be established what had prompted the incident.
(Johan) Steyn declined to comment when approached yesterday, while his alleged victim could not be reached.
The Police indicated that no formal charges had been laid, as the complainant had had no time to do so before the departure of his flight.
Bay Air CEO Clifford Strydom said yesterday that their pilot intended laying assault charges against Steyn. Although Bay Air said it reported the incident to the Director of Civil Aviation, the Directorate's Deputy Director for Aviation Safety and Security, Larry Makanza, said yesterday that he had no knowledge of it.

My guess is BigMac will do nothing!! Its not his territory, I'd rather think the big boss of W/A should do something...
If that was an employee who assaulted another pilot, he would face an disciplinary and most probably an immediate dismissal...

Good luck to him!!!:ok:

A blow to the head requires immediate suspension of your medical - so one would be careful, I guess, to hastely lay charges?

Oh yes Brad does play a role .... apparently "The Major", would have given both of his man glands to have WA associated with Brad. Whilst he and Angelina (oh god, what a babe) where in Namibia, Brad had some flying training in a Grand Van. Seeing that WA had a Van at that stage based in Swakop, "The Major" would have liked to have WA's instructor do the training. He even approached the instructor, inviting him and Brad to have tea at his place. According to Brad he did not have time or the inclination for social visits. After all they where in Namibia to get away from it all. When this tea party did not happen, the s...t obviously hit the fan, "The Major" was unhappy and somebody guilty, or generally undesirable, had to be found.

I believe the Brad thing was perhaps not the direct reason for Fridays boxing session, but surely added a couple of drops to the proverbial bucket.

Apparently his words (before the first blow fell) was something in the order "... stop harassing my pilots ...."!

Johan Steyn.......yes I've known him for many years. The last 18 years I've only seen him on and off. Hav'nt changed a bit, the major. Must have had a reason for re-arranging the opponents nose.

.... would also like to know the details .... would be interesting.

I think at this stage WA is trying their best to p*ss of the rest of the airport and try and keep customers. Stress levels are high, the rumor mill at Eros never stops milling, new stories and "facts" coming out daily. Some of them hilarious other rather sad.

Oh I.R.PIRATE give us details!!!! You should elaborate on the Brad thing .... (preferably Angie details, vital statistics etc, maybe a couple of pics etc ;) )

Yup, must have been a reason of note for this. Should we leave it between the antagonists and move directly and with all haste to the more important details regarding Angelina? ;)

Exactly!!! Why bother with Brad Pitt, would have rather given Angie a Caravan rating with the A/P on!!!!:)

;) I opperated for Pleasure flights in 1997-98 and have met Johan and the clowns at Bay Air,and for Johan to do wat he did, Bay Air must have gone all the way to screw him in one way or the other. And even back then it was well knonw of Bay air's questionable dealings.
Isn't it time for the ruling body to get rid of the shadow operators.
Go Johan

Or of certain DE's.:\ Cannot imagine that the fight was between Bay Air and Johan....:p

Tom_Kitty
2nd Oct 2006, 13:02
.... no, I think it was personal issue between the two. I don't think it's a Bay Air/Westair issue.

Oh Biff99, let me tell you, there is NO operator that did not (or does not)have shady dealings. Johan is certainly one with a shady past (and present) and if you say somebody must have screwed Johan then you are missing the issue here. One simply does not behave like that in public, least of all if you are calling yourself a director of a respectable (?) company.

The "looser" in this battle send an e-mail to every aviator in Namibia (so it seems) about his loosing battle. But it takes an engineer to understand the contents of that mail

Do you mean that the "looser" is the one being hit who has enough control over himself not to hit back, OR the one who tells everyone that he did the right thing.....

I only heard about the "big fight" on the Eros apron last week and had a very good chuckle! Im also an ex Nam pilot and would have loved to see that! It really didnt surprize me because as far as I can remember Mr. DE is constantly battled in a lawsuit with at least 3/4 of the flying community in Namibia. Eros politics, gotta love it!
