Recently, some articles have come off the newswires in The U.S. that are very critical of the air pollution in Hong Kong. To summarize, the articles state that air pollution in Hong Kong is significantly worse than Los Angeles and that it is getting worse. Visibility is frequently reduced in smog and the air is so polluted at times that the health of even healthy people is effected if they stay outside long enough. The article went on to say that some expats. have recently left Hong Kong for cleaner cities in Asia and that the pollution is beginning to effect the economy.

For those of you currently living in the SAR, are things really this bleak?

I don't know any of the technical stats and can't be inclined to read up on them. I can tell you this; when I'm in HKG I have more minor resparatory ailments and problems than when I'm elsewhere. Downtown it's impossible to get away from the smell of exhaust fumes and the industrial areas and airport pump out sufficient gasses that they are always "smellable."
