Your'e mad if you want to work at ltn. The unfortunate crew dont get a sniff of the long haul. And the dublin thing! ha ha ha thats funnny, i dont think we would open a fixed base at dublin, that would be a huge move for monarch and if you know anything about monarch, is that we do everything in small sloooooooowwwww steps.

:ok:

I already know a lot about Monarch and I am certainly not mad!!

I happen to live near Luton and that is why I would like to be based there. I also know about the long-haul thing - it is just something I would have to live with for now. :)

Dublin - well I think that is pretty well served by several others isn't it??

Tart1,
have you tried applying to SilverJet? New airline recruiting experienced crew to be based in Luton for their operation starting in December.

Does anyone know if Carol Bailey is still in recruitment????? I turned Monarch down years ago and think that they thought I had messed them about quite abit with regards to bases etc, when I re-applied a couple of years later with loads of flying experience I did not even get an assessment and sure that is the reason, if she is then I will not even bother with the application.

Thanks

stay away from silverjet - ain't got a clue about running an airline. They rekon they won't need standby crews, and he'll just whip up a roster on his laptop hence no crewing department. Supposed to commence operations in october - now its December. Lets hope this isn't another NOW airlines senario

Funny you should mention Silverjet ... I did have an interview arranged in August but I couldn't go because I was ill that day. I was offered another interview the week after but I was away on holiday.

I just abandoned the idea then, partly because of all the negative feedback on this forum.

Today I received another mail from them saying that they would like me to interview for their 'second intake' sometime in November. Well I suppose I might go for it - nothing to lose! :)

Thanks anyway NOMADE!

Please go to your assessment day with Silverjet, you're right there's nothing to lose.

I'm starting with them as soon as the course is confirmed, please don't let the whinging on here sway you. I nearly took notice of what was on here but it's a lot from ppl who expect a new airline to be set up and running seamlessly from Day 1, which most people know won't happen but it will be fantastic to be there from the start. But give them their due, if ppl want to walk into things where its all smoth then thats there preference too!

I think it has real potential to go places, final negotiations for 3rd a/c underway, 3 routes already planned once NYC is up and running, really good service ideas- go for it if you're interested.

It's a new airline, it won't be perfect from the outset there will be highs and lows but it will be exciting and from all the contact I've had with them so far they sound really lovely, there is going to be standby they just hope not too much and it really is worth a try. If it does go wrong then thats life and there's other airlines, but if you are interested, try, most of the crew are already chatting online and it seems like its gonna be a great team and we haven't even started yet!

Go for it and if you want to know anymore PM me, I'll be happy to tell you that I know! Which to me, sounds great!

Good luck!

Just to get back on track, I've asked a couple of recruitment questions on the Thomsonfly thread and am posting similar ones here which if answered would be useful for anyone applying for Monarch crew next year;

1/ When does recruitment take place throughout the year? From how early until how late?

2/ What chances do people have of getting their first or second base choice? Are any crews dual-based?

3/ How long are Monarch's training courses and where do they take place? Are you trained on all types within the MON fleet?

4/ What incentives are there & how good are they? Allowances, language payment, staff travel etc.?

5/ How is morale at MON? What's the atmosphere like? Differences between charter & scheduled?

I can answer these questions for to the best of my knowledge.

1, Monarch are recruiting at the moment and I will be helping with the interviewing tomorrow, Monarch usually recruits in the off season so the new crew's get a chance to get a grip on things beefore it gets manic in the summer.

2, No crew's are dual based, You have a very good chance of getting your first choice providing they are recruiting for that base. Sometimes Manchester crew's do have to come down to LGW if they would like to stay on with us but they can transfer back after a year or so.

3, The training last for 6 weeks, you have exam's nearly every day. They take place at most of our bases especially MAN,LTN & LGW. Monarch have too many a/c types to be fleeted on all so you are split in the following:
-757,767,330
-757,300,330
-320/21,300,330

4, Consessions with monarch are ok, you get them after 1 year of becoming permanent. Monarch do pay for extra languages avg £30 xtra per month per language. Flight allowances are very good, I think 2nd best in the charter world. You get paid on the hr every hour you are out of base. There is a difference to long haul and short haul allowance. example a week in MLE you will get £550 in t/cheques givin to you by the Capt. There is an onboard spend per head taget (SPH) which if you achieve you get a bonus of inbetween £11 and £30 per flight. Staff travel, is ok I travel to New Zealand every year on a stand by basis for under £300. usually flight price at that time of year is over a grand. We have stand by tickets with all of the major airlines.

5, There is a huge differnece between charter and scheduled airlines if that is the question you are asking and not charter and monarch scheduled flights? Moral is usually high, summer time is very busy and you can get over worked, Money is quite good so that always perks you up. Alot of the crew at Monarch dont work for the airline to serve pax and get shouted at al day, we come into work for the crew, we know we are going to have a good day when you see the crew list.

hope this helps everyone and please contact me if you want to know more.:ok:

I took part in the selection day at birmingham airport yesterday. Was a really good day and the hosts were a really great bunch! I was told that the Birmingham contract would not be until next summer period. I was then noted on an earlier Gatwick course which i said i would have to think about but say i was lucky enough to be offered a course the chances are i would take up the offer!
There were ten - ish people at our day, but i dont know how many people they were looking for?!
Many Thanks

Go for Monarch if you want good trips in a company that is extremely stable. Scheduled services are always expanding, the aircraft fleets are growing (especially with the introduction of 6 Boeings 787's in 2010!!!)

I left Monarch to go to a scheduled airline, but I sometimes regret leaving. You hear stories about senior crew being strict at Monarch. Experience has shown this is very much exaggereated. If you follow the rules you'll be fine. I miss flying on "bendy" 757's!

If i am offered a job with Monarch im a bit stuck in between which base to go for. Luton will enable me commute to and from work which will cost quite a bit in fuel wheras i could commute considerably less if i was based at Gatwick and rent a property. The 3rd November course is not that far around the corner and i obviously need to find somewhere to stay for the duration of the course if i do commit to a Gatwick base- do a lot of people rent down there or a lot of the crew from the London area anyway?

Also how much flying a month will you do with Monarch at Gatwick compared to Luton - is it roughly the same? The allocation of a long haul trip is also a bonus to being based at Gatwick, but dont think this is really worth the move if you only do say one trip in the 6 month contract or is it usually more than that? What salary would you expect to receive at Luton and Gatwick respectively?

Finally, im under the impression that the contract will be for six months which will end early June if you are on the November course? Is the contract more than six months to cover for the summer season?

Look Forward to your replies.

Many Thanks

Easy226 - Personally I'd go for Gatwick base. I spent 3 and a half years there and it's great! You do have the bonus of long haul, it's a busier base and you don't have Monarch HQ looking down on you all the time.

You're probably not quite so busy at LGW compared to LTN but the benefits outweigh that.

oh right ok - whats it like living on the wage in gatwick and renting a property. That Novemeber course would be great if i got offered a job - November 23rd just after graduation! Do you receive a higher salary being based at Gatwick?

Many Thanks

I can easily answer those questions for you Easy. Whilst on your training a lot of the new ones stay at B&B's untill they passed there trainng so they are not commited to a rent contract if they dont pass the exams. Whilst I was training at monarch I was commuting from Worthing by train which took just under an hour so I used that time to study for my exams which came in very handy.

Alot of crew live near or around gatwick, but, there are some silly ones that live in Wales and other places as far as that. A lot of crew live in and around london that are gatwick based any way. Depending on your fleet the longhaul can be one or two trips a month, even the airbus fleet get one trip a month so you will definatley do more that one trip in your first 6 months. In my first 6 months I went to Tobago 8 times, Goa 5 times, Maldives 3 times and calgary 3 times and bahrain once. Winter season is where the longhaul takes over from the short haul.

You will most likely work more often in lgw, with the long haul and short and the expanding scheduled, you wont really have a quiet roster. The contract may run upto 8-9 months it all depends on how busy monarch are. As Gatwick07 mentioned earlier, if you keep your nose clean and work hard you will get a permanent contract.

Hope this helps you Easy.

kind regards

SWMBO shared a flat in Brighton with another Monarch flight attendant, and it seemed to be a popular location for crews to rent. They could make Gatwick from there in 30 mins or so - I think Monarch have some rule about how quickly you need to be able to get to the office when on standby so that governs a lot of your choice over location. Horley and Crawley are other obvious places where a lot of crews rent accommodation.

FWIW she was on the 757/300/330 fleet at LGW and quite enjoyed it for the most part. I certainly enjoyed a very pleasent week in Varadero with her an ten other gorgeous women for the price of a standby ticket, can't argue with that :D

One reason she left was that the ethos for promotion seemed to be on time served rather than ability - I think that's something that changed not long after she left. It certainly seemed like a reasonably good company to work for.

Congratulations Easy226!!!! You should be absolutely fine with the training course - just keep studying!

There is a company called Flycom (the name of the company may have changed now, I'm not sure) - they have an offer called "rooms for courses". You are contracted to a room for around 6 weeks (approx. length of your course) and you usually lodge with a family. You pay around the same (approx. £500) as six weeks rent but if the worst happened and you failed your exams you wouldn't worry about being tied down to a six month house contract for example.

Alternatively check out the accomodation thread on PPRUNE.

I wish you all the best at Monarch, it's a great company to work for, and I'm sure you'll have a great time on trips! ;)

Thanks a lot for the encouragement - looking forward to starting now. I am not on the 3rd Nov course as this conflicts with my graduation on 23rd Nov. Im on standby for the 24th Novemeber course which is currently full - i hope i can go on this one as i dont know when the next one will be. The other option is Luton on the 7th December.

Many Thanks

Hi easy22! I am on the November 24th course at LGW. I was given a call today to see if anyone wanted to start on the Nov 3rd.
