Heard a real gem, and even i didn't believe it. But have had it confirmed that its true. After cancelling the order for the A320's SAA never cancelled the engine order. I hear that SAA is the proud owner of 40 engines that it has no use for.

U gotta admit, even by their high standards, this is a real peach.

Nice one!! Dont know if thats worrying or hillarious though........Although known SAA they will try put those A320 engines onto the A340 (or maybe they have already!!)

Don't think its true, AFAIK engine choice for the 15 A320's ordered was never announced (ie possibly the choice wasn't made)

However, if the engines and other parts that suddenly supposedly "arrived" are IAE engines they would most likely be able to use them on the current fleet of A319's.

Avi8tor,

Whether your info re 40 spares engines for an A320 is correct or not . It really supply me with a good laught !:} This only can happen in Africa! At least SAA will have plenty spare engines lying around as back-up! Thanks again "Joker" for the laught !:ok:

I also heard this a while back...

Nothing is impossible, it is afterall SAA. But I agree with bianchi, whether it's true or not it's still a good laugh...

Maybe they can stick them on the 737's and make themselves a Bairbus B337 :}

Funny, I also heard this rumour about a year ago, as they say, "where there's smoke....." :E

Almost as funny as selling their 49% shares in Air Tanzania, bought in 2002 for 20 million USD, back to the Tanzanian goverment for 1 USD. :}

Added to this rumour is the rumour that they also did not cancel the interiors they ordered fro the A320's - should make a nice new lounge in the new wing at JIA!:D

Well, everybody believes they have cancelled their A320 order but in actual fact they are buying their fleet as they can afford it.:E It's also cheaper tax wise to import it as spares as to importing the whole aircraft one time.....:p
Soon they will start building their own Airbus e 320, the local airtaxi……….eish! :}
