MOZAMBIQUE
SA pilots held for drug trafficking

Mon, 11 Sep 2006
Two South African pilots are being held in Mozambique on suspicion of drug trafficking, reported SABC radio on Sunday.

The two were identified as Benjamin Thuiso and Gerard van Aarde.

The plane — a single engine aircraft — landed on the country's main north-south highway between the districts of Vilankulo and Inhassoro.

It's alleged that the plane was waiting to pick up a cargo believed to be illegal drugs.

The pilots are being held at the Vilankulo district prison.

Ouch!! Not nice. An African jail is definitely not first prize. Apparently they landed on the main road and were waitning for the pick up when they were arrested. Obviously it is early days and still very much a rumour but I feel less than zero sympathy for drug smugglers! Hopefully that is not what they were doing, it has all been a misunderstanding and they will be released soon.
