Hi all,

I'm intrigued to know the reason for the relatively large numbers of Dubai and Bahraini 747s and 747-SPs that have been flying into LHR over the summer. Clearly they are carrying large numbers of passengers. Can anyone throw any light on the reasons for these flights??

Cheers,
MM

I can assure you that they won't be carrying "large" numbers of passengers! 1 or 2 "passengers" + a dozen or so hangers on is about normal.

Just attempting to put two and two together, but perhaps they came over to the UK for the Goodwood Revival last weekend with some of their car collection? Or horse racing? Or even perhaps they fancied a bit of shopping in Harrods?

It's the start of the new school year, they are merely doing the school run for the nippers.

Those sort of VIP limos have been in and out of Heathrow for the last 20+ years to my knowledge - used to be 707 types but now they've upgraded. Check Farnborough too - some of the VIP BBJs are almost resident there.

A bahrain 747 stoped at ncl 2 weeks ago when its owner went grouse shooting in northumberland.

Add the Qatari A340-500 and a chartered Etihad A330 last weekend as well.
The Etihad was parked in the cargo area most of Sunday. I am not sure if it was an A330 or their leased/liveried A300F.
