Mmmm....no.

For CC jobs purpose, as long as they are kept cleen I do not see any problem!
My teeth are ok but not the best teeth, and they are high maintainance for lack of calcium!! I would never have orthodontic work done just for image/aesthetic reasons, it hurts enough when I have to do it for health reasons.

Most airlines do not care if your teeth are so white that they make other people blind or if they are so straight to give you that Barbie's smile!

Aw. Why is that? I think it's worth it [not to get it FOR a CC role, but in general I think it's worth it]. But many would disagree. I am blessed with a pretty straight set of pearlies but I would never say never if my teeth moved further than my liking..

I realise that CC don't need teeth like 'Barbie' I was just wondering who has had it done as I'd read on another aviation forum that many go and get whitening treatments, braces, surery etc to improve their image.

PS -- I'm particularly interested to know if any CC currently wear braces.

Ive never had braces but have been known to use whitening products, its not essential for the job but i know it enhances my smile.

I wore braces as a kid as my teeth were not straight. They are not perfect now but much better, however I had to wear braces because if I hadn't done that most of my rear teeth wouldn't have come down correctly, disrupting the way I chew and especially altering the shape of my jaw etc. However wearing braces was not pain free, I recall not being able to eat solid food for days and days every time I went to the dentist for them to be adjusted....:\

I do know a few cabin crew in BA both boys and girls who wear braces. Some of them opted for a "clear" look (apparently there are new materials available) some for "internal" braces which cannot be seen (although they have a bit of difficulty speaking over the PA) and some for the normal metallic ones. One of the ladies is in her fifties even so it doesn't only happen to the younger section of the crew!

apparently laser whitening will give you nice white teeth, but will tend to kill the important bits off inside the tooth, this tends to catch up on you in the latter years. be careful what you choose - the other option is professional dental grade white gel with mouthguard - not the type available over the counter. this is supposedly better for your teeth

- if you drink a bucketload of coffee or smoke, it will be a waste anyway!

I dont have perfect teeth either, but it seems like my whole life I have been putting off actually doing something about it. I am going through the Emirates recruitment process now and doing my medicals. On the one form, it actually says braces are not acceptable. Is this true? Does anyone know anyone who works for Emirates and has braces??

I just got hired as FA at Qatar Airways.. but before that I have to pass all the dental & medicals... It really cost me alot! Restorations, extractions & Root canals! and yes it's true braces are not allowed, Thank God I 've hd my braces back in grade school.. :)

Virgin Atlantic allow their crew to wear braces and I myself have had braces. My teeth are now perfectly straight and I'm looking forward to having them whitened. It does give me added confidence when smiling and greeting passengers.

I had my teeth whitened some time ago. Nothing wrong with them really, but tea drinking is a killer to teeth. So I went for whitening in the US, at BriteSmile (http://www.britesmile.com/index.html?tf=8888739729&pc=0605-SPAS), that was recommended by my Dermatologist. Just took an appointment on the first day of a 2 days layover, to have it done the following day. The whole thing lasts approximately 2 hours.

I was quite tired of going for painful cleaning sessions every 6 months at my dentist's because of my tea drinking. So I went for whitening after deciding to quit drinking tea and Coke (never drank coffee) altough not red wine, which are the things that stain your teeth the most. No point on having it done if you are still drinking staining stuff, since you would have to do it all over again every 2 years, which would damage your teeth and gums.

I think I paid around 500$ (there was a Valentine's Day promotion, otherwise it's around 600$), which seemed like a good price compared to the local dentists' prices where I live).

Having a winner smile is a great asset. I was very lucky and my parents sent me to the orthodontist as a teenager. Whislt it was uncomfortable then, I'm so grateful now. Having great teeth is super for the confidence!! I've also had them whitened. The dentist can sort that for you.

I have fellow crew members and even a few pax comment on my lovely teeth. It's great.:E

You can only have braces if they don't show. They don't have to be perfectly straight but if you need to have any work done you have to do it before you join as you will need a form filled from your dentist and you will get checked again at the clinic once in Dubai.

When I first started flying I had very crooked, slightly chipped teeth. I was always self concious about them, and obviously in this job you smile, ALOT!

I was sick of constantly covering my mouth with my hand, or people asking me if I was in a bad mood, simply because I wasn't smiling a big open mouth smile.

I'd had enough and (for many reasons) I had them fixed. Eight porcelain veneers and 2 days of cosmetic dental surgery later, I had a perfect smile. Now I can't stop grinning and ... get lots of compliments about my smile :E .

So, the job wasn't the reason why I got my teeth done, but in some ways it helps me do my job better.

It changed my life.

In Australia, well at least the area I live [which matters for Ortho work and whitening techniques] in Melbourne, zoom laser whitening costs a flat rate of $1078, it lasts 2hrs in the chair but apparently it can be a stop start procedure due to the strength on some peoples gums [bleeding etc. Ew] the heightened whiteness lasts 2+ years but you don't have to do that again afterward, you can use at home kits from your dentist too. They cost more like $400-$600 and apparently my dentist says they are MUCH better for your teeth's enamel and gives the "same" whiteness. Haha. So I know which I'd choose.

Re: Braces. Yep! Flybywire.. Invisalign is seemingly not noticible unless you show people and point it out. And at some level on your speech for the first few days of each tray. They are little trays fitted especially to your teeth, like a plastic glove. Hehe. I am really hyped to go and do a work up with my dentist. I only have a small overbite as said, the straightness is fine, so will see what she says.

Hi there, well Im crew, and I've just had a brace put on, I've had it a month now, only another 11 to go!...

Its a full train track brace - BUT.... the brackets are Ceramic white, so all you see really is the wire.. I have to have it on for a year, and I cant wait to have them all straight, and will have them whitened afterwards..

dont get me wrong, my teeth were straight before (I had a metal train tracks when I was younger - glutten for punnishment me!), but there was one tooth still slightley crooked, and Im a perfectionist, so its all in the name of vanity :)

You can also get train tracks on the INSIDE of your teeth these days! but its VERY expensive, and I should imagine very uncomfortable too.

Hi there, I am currrently going through all my medicals with Emirates at the moment, and they are very specific on your dental requirements, to put it simply your teeth have to be in the best shape ever, regardless of weather you can see it or not.

I have straight, white teeth, and thought that when I went to the dentist the only treatment I was going to need was maybe a clean and polish, however due to Emirates requirements every tooth had to be perfect including the molars and wisdom teeth so I am having to have extensive work on my back teeth...(the ones you never see...crap) thank the good lord my mothers brother (my uncle) is a dentist and has his own surgery, otherwise I would probably have to pay mega bucks to get my teeth fixed!:O
