Anyone have any news or info on the SAA A340 that turned back to Sao Paulo, with smoke in the cockpit?
They are dispatching a 747-400 tonight to go pick up the pax.

In any incident/event involving SAA crew, you'll almost never see them share any info on what occured on pprune. Most info comes from outside sources.

I see this now with this event, the recent SAA hijack incident, and a bomb scare which involved them getting the pax off using the slides at FAJS. I was also curious recently about an apparent incident with Airlink, where some wheels are supposed to have fallen off a J41 (on departure?), and no info was forthcoming. I think it would be nice if they shared, but can easily understand the reluctance to do so here.

The problem was with a recirculating fan and there was smoke on the flightdeck and in the cabin. Aircraft returned to JNB and landed overweight as there was not enough time to dump fuel.

Negative, it was an A340-300E, ZS-SXA. AFAIK Flight was from FAJS to Sao Paulo and returned to FAJS.
