Noticed that the ATSB has put out a supplementary report on the Mt Hotham accident. Seems fairly obvious that the pilot was not dealing with an engine failure when it hit the hill. Also was interested to see the radar trace of the earlier flight which looked very similar to the fatal flight.

That was done ages ago. It's already been discussed in lengthy detail at a previous date on this forum. Do a search.

Actually, you are wrong morno, an additional supplimentary appendix was published for the report last week.

See Supplementary Appendix. Collision with Terrain, Mt Hotham, Victoria, 08 July 2005, Piper Aircraft Corporation PA-31-350, VH-OAO (http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2005/AAIR/aair200503265.aspx)

John Eacott: Do you have any comments on the reasoning or conclusions of the 'Supplementary Appendix' to the ATSB's report?

Hmmmmmm.....

This Supplementary Appendix was released a month ago.

Is it fair to say the ATSB has defended themselves quite well against suggestions that this accident was caused primarilly by an engine failure, and that they might have stuffed up the investigation?

If I recall, there was some debate on a previous Forum about this being a possibility.

The silence is deafening!
