A passenger has reported a bomb scare on board a flight from China to Australia.

A note warning that a bomb would explode on the China Southern Airlines flight from Guangzhou to Sydney was found one hour into the journey, The Nine Network reported.

The note forced the pilot to take emergency action and return to Guangzhou.

Australian passenger Jason Harper said: "They dumped all the fuel. Then all the lights went out. But no one knew what was happening.

"Then we landed and there were about 20 police cars and fire engines and stuff everywhere."

The passengers were taken from the plane and interviewed by authorities for two hours before being allowed to reboard the flight and resume the journey, the Nine Network said.

They dumped all the fuel.

So they became a big glider too. No wonder the lights went out. :}

Was it really a note that said BOMB or was it some one's scrawling BOB, as happened with United ex SYD some time ago?

Australian held over mid-air bomb threat
August 23, 2006

CHINESE police have reportedly detained an Australian for threatening to blow up a flight to Australia, prompting an emergency landing in southern China.

The threat on Monday turned out to be a hoax. The China Southern Airlines plane landed safely and no bomb was found.

The Xinhua news agency today said police had detained an Australian man, originally from Hong Kong.

He reportedly made the threat over a failed love affair.

Xinhua did not say if the man had been charged.

The flight from Guangzhou to Sydney was turned around after about 40 minutes after a passenger discovered a note in a bathroom.

Xinhau said it warned: "There is a bomb on the aircraft."

The pilot returned to Guangzhou where the passengers were taken off the plane and police searched the aircraft.

No bomb was found and the passengers were later allowed to resume their journey.

Hmmm, ... detained an Australian for threatening to blow up a flight to Australia ...

Can't be correct. It was only recently I read on PPRuNe that it was only Middle Eastern muslims who were terrorists, so it couldn't be an Australian.

Good heavens, we'll have to go to war with ourselves now.
