I would appreciate any advice on the best way to travel commercially from Johannesburg to Freetown (SL), Conakry and back. I need to spend a couple of days in each location. I thought perhaps via Dakar?

Thanks

Don't know - usually the company would fix this up. I see there is no diplomatic representation of SL in SA. Would UK be best?

Thanks for the info so far!

As I said you need a visa even as crew. You will have to go inperson to London.

Can get SL visa from SA Home Affairs in Pta (got mine there 2 years ago).

Can consider SAA to Accra, Abidjan or Lagos.
Bellview to Freetown (and Conakry??).

Used Ghana Airways previously Accra to Freetown - DC9

You can fly direct to Freetown with Kenya Airways, You do not have to apply for a visa as you can get one on arrival for about 110.00 USD. Avoid going via London

Strange this visa on arrival business. A good friend of mine is an advser to a Govt dept in SL and even he has to get a visa every time he goes there. The RSA home affairs issues visas for SL??????????????????????????????

I went up to SL about three months ago and I did not apply for a visa from SA. I got it on arrival. You have to be carefull as the people there can be a bt croockery as they charge anything for a visa.

Ah - excuse me - am I asking about sea travel here? Aviation=air travel. Legitimate request I thought. Thanks to all the people who took the trouble to assist a fellow aviator. No thanks to Jacobest.
