Couple of questions regarding nightfighters if you please:

1) What is your favorite book on the subject? I've got a decent collection regarding the subject, but am always on the look-out for more.

2) When do you consider the dividing time line from nightfighter to all weather fighter/interceptor?

3) Is it nightfighter or night fighter?

I appreciate any legitimate answers and look forward to any witty ones!

1) I don't have one

2) About the start of monsoon season

3) I believe they prefer the term escort, or sometimes auntie.

One things for sure, once they've got you in their sights you need to evade them with the skills of a WW2 fighter pilot in any bar in Africa.:E

brickhistory: You could look for "Scramble", I think it is still available at the UK dept. of the big river book place.

It is the story of a little known RAF pilot, Wing Commander J.R.D Braham, triple DSO, triple DFC, and AFC.

I'm sure you've already got these (both excellent books):
Night Fighter by Robert Rawnsley & C.F. Wright. (ISBN 0907579671)
Night Flyer by Lewis Brandon. (ISBN 0907579167)
On this side of the pond, we'd call them 'night fighters'.

......there is "Duel under the Stars". Can't remember the author, unfortunately.

Fascinating book. He describes trying to overcome most of the anti-night fighter innovations used by the RAF, and was attempting to defend Hamburg on the night "Window" was first used. He flew Me 110's throughout the war.

Two excellent books that contain information about night fighters, but are also a good read in their own right are:

Most Secret War by RV Jones

and

Instruments of Darkness by Alfred Price

Thank you for the replies, much appreciated.

For those interested, some other great night fighter reads are:

Pursuit Through Darkened Skies, Micheal Allen - triple DFC R/O's tale
The Other Battle, Peter Hinchcliffe - Luftwaffe side of the night
Fighter Nights, John Bennett - RAAF 456 Sq in WWII
Night Intruder, Jeremy Howard-Williams, contemporary of Rawnsley
Cover of Darkness, Rory Chisholm, contemporary of Rawnsley
Queen of the Midnight Skies, Papp & ?, USAAF night fighters, mainly P-61

Any one know of any others? How about from the Japanese, Russian, or others?
