Just a quick question.

Would controlled stage 2 hypertension affect the successful outcome of an aviation medical?

Hi A320,

I am not familiar with the different stages of hypertension however I did ask my dame about whether it does affect the outcome of medicals and he assured me as long as it can be controlled then no, it is no problem. hope this helps

Stage two is the most severe, aka ridiculously high.

Thanks for the response!

Class 1 or 2 medical?

Until CASA get their ducks in a row at Aviation Medical Branch, I would suggest you ring Dr Arthur Pape DAME in Geelong Vic for advice.

You may remember him, as he, who sorted out the colour blind pilot to their great advantage.

"Controlled" hypertension is not hypertension as I see it.:)

Ahh there you go. I have a history of it in the fam so I had to ask the question on my last medical (as he had in the past told me mine was 'elevated'). But like I said, there's no restrictions on taking drugs to control it and in turn, keeping your medical. I'm sure if I am wrong someone will quickly let me know!

You might want to have a look in the DAME Handbook which you can access on the CASA website.
