Following the instructions to set your own location from which to start are 'difficult' but accurate. http://www.isoma.net/games/Link-to-location-in-goggles.html

That's great, but what of us poor folk who do not use Firefox???

I use opera, and I've tried what they suggest, the clearing cache thingy but no link comes up!

:(

Get Firefox?

I have to use IE (much against my wishes) to access SOME sites, but I use Firefox for everyday use.

I've used firefox previously, very very rarely touch internet exploder. There aren't many sites I need enough to use THAT pile of rubbish.

I use Opera, mainly because it seems to be less memory hungry and run faster, not that that's a particular issue with umpteen giga-tera oojamaflip whatsits of thingumyjig but you know!

Guess I've kinda got used to Opera now, don't fancy having 3 browsers installed!

Do you people know WHY you're slagging of IE, or are you just saying you hate it because it's owned by microsoft?

Personally, I find that firefox works with fewer sites, and attracts a lot more ad and spyware.

IE works just as well as Firefox - the only thing you really need to be frighted of on the web is "anti-virus software"

um..... yeah! What's wrong with that? Just because Bill Gates has suddenly come over all altruistic and charitable, we suddenly have to start liking Microsoft? Get real!

(and as for colmac747, I use Firefox and went visiting one of those links in another thread. I had a interesting ten minutes or so trying to get back out of it! Not this time, thank you very much!!)

Ok, here goes for a link, using ie6, to your own location.

First find your location. Use the original GoogleMaps (http://maps.google.com/) to find your house. (refer to Google's help if you have trouble).

Make sure googlemaps is in 'Satellite' mode so that what you see is photographic. Ensure you are zoomed into the maximum level available. Goggles wont accept zoomed out start locations, because they make the continuity look strange. If you live in Piddle Trenthide in Dorset or somewhere similar, you may not be able to fly there in Goggles, as Google maps aerial photography doesn't yet cover everywhere in the world.

Click on the 'Link to this page' button. (it's really annoying if you forget to do this bit)

Go to the ie6 'Tools' menu and select 'internet options'

Under the 'general' tab select the 'delete files' button in the 'temporary internet files' section. This will clear your ie6 temporary internet files.

Close the options window and hit page reload (F5 or that funny double green arrow icon) to refresh the googlemap image.

Re-open the 'internet options' window (under 'tools' remember) and select the general tab followed by the 'settings' button in the 'temporary internet files' section.

From the pop-up window select 'view files'. This will give you a list of all the temporary internet files, including cookies on your machine. In this list will be the files from the googlemap page that you have recently looked at and refreshed

Find the files that resembles something like http://kh0.google.com/kh?n=404&v=9&t=tqsrsrrsrrsttrtsrtqq. There should be a number of these. The bit of interest is the final part of the string, ie tqsrsrrsrrsttrtsrtqq.

Now all you have to do is type that string into the ie explorer address bar after this string http://www.isoma.net/games/goggles.html?loc= (http://www.isoma.net/games/goggles.html?loc=) ie the address should look like this: http://www.isoma.net/games/goggles.html?loc= (http://www.isoma.net/games/goggles.html?loc=)tqsrsrrsrrsttrtsrtqq

When the flight sim opens just click 'start'. Do not select a different location from the drop down list.

I think that's about correct. Don't blame me if it fails!!!

I've just realised that this could lead to a little quiz.

click on http://www.isoma.net/games/goggles.html?loc=tqsrsrrsrrsttrtsrtqq (http://www.isoma.net/games/goggles.html?loc=tqsrsrrsrrsttrtsrtqq) and let's see who can name the town I've picked as an example :p
