Safety in Kingston is a problem. A colleague who was based in Kingston had interesting stories of commuting to work through shootouts between the entire middle-class neighborhood and the police because the police had killed the local benevolent drug "Don."

Then there is the more common crime that you have to deal with. If it is a good deal, go for it, but be careful and don't expect a resort-style environment. I thought it to be a fairly expensive island. They do have great Jerk, which is nice when downed with a Ting.
