View Full Version : So how come no exhaust exists for my car?

So today my exhaust has snapped in two and I need a new back box and middle section. So off I tootle to kwik-fit thinking they'll have it sorted in a couple of hours, no bother.

WRONG!

I just cannot get the exhaust parts I need because they don't exist, KF spent over an hour trying every supplier they knew and Mr L and I have been searching the net for a goodly part of the evening.

I have a Honda civic 1.6ies aerodeck and need the part to be here and fitted in the next six days because setting off at 00stupid oclock and rattling the neighbours awake is just really not on. HELP!!!!

Stocks are exhausted.
You might have no option other than to get one from H O N D A
If the 'pattern part' makers haven't picked it up then it's feasible that NONE of them will have it (as they all work to same master list).
In extremis, drive into your Honda dealer workshop and ask the Foreman / Fitter to have a look (they'll probably 'recognise' what part(s) you need).

Is your car an 'import' (ie did YOU buy it new from a Honda Dealer?)? Doing a Googoo search on 'Honda civic 1.6ies aerodeck exhaust' produced just ONE URL:-
http://www.hondaworld.ru/honda_spares_8841_category_1.htm

Do you have contacts in Russia?

My wife has a Honda and she's had similar problems when trying to obtain various parts from Nora Auto (French equiv of Kwik fit) and other places, she's now given up and all parts are purchased from our Honda main dealer at ridiculously high prices. I thought it was some kind of French conspiracy to force everyone to buy a Renault or Citroen though it seems our gallic friends are blameless if it also happens in the UK as well....

Hmm, the Honda dealer is a place to try but I'm not sure how old the car is and so if they'd hold stock. Also it will cost you a pretty penny!

Is it an import or something? Just unusual that KF can't find one for you!

If not then search for Honda forums on the web and ask there, I've always found the car forums pretty good for knowledge like that.

The last option, not particularly good but might see you through til you can find a new one is to phone round local scrappies and see if they have one.

How about one like this? ;)

From MY searches, the problem is the 'ies'. I'm guessing that it's a 1997 three-door?
or is it a 1996 ESi?

Is it fitted with a 'cat' (catalytic convertor)?

'Best' fit:- (don't say it's right mind you)
http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/exhausts_details.php?recordID=1312

IS it a Civic CRX? What does the Manual/LogBook/VIN Plate say? The VIN will give the model year (which may be different to first registration - either way).

No sweats - get the local Cowboy Garage to break out the gas-axe and a couple of baked-bean cans, and they'll have a temporary fix done in no time :E

Lexxity,

Here is a link (http://motors.search.ebay.co.uk/honda-exhaust_Car-Parts_W0QQcatrefZC12QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQ copagenumZ1QQfnuZ1QQfromZR2QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ3QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1Q Qga10244Z10425QQsacatZ14239) to an ebay search for Honda exhausts (for cars).

Are any of these any good?
I sooo hope that the Ninja exhaust (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-Civic-Ninja-Performance-Exhaust_W0QQitemZ230014140298QQihZ013QQcategoryZ10386QQssPag eNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) does the trick as it would so please Mercenary Pilot!!!!!

If any of the exhausts are suitable and the seller is a dealer with a regular supply you might be able to contact them direct to purchase a part rather than wait for an auction to end. Alternatively if the part is wrong they still might be able to get hold of the right one - including Ninja.

Best of luck,

eticket

:ok: And since it is stainless, you probably won't ever have to think about changing out those parts, ever again... :ok: Will most likely be a nicer job made of it, too :)

Probably not cheap. Check your local yellow pages. I had a guy in N. London weld up a system for my chevy several years ago and it's still perfect

Thanks for all the replies. I am still waiting for HONDA to call me back and ATS are checking for me. It is nothing so exciting as a 3 door crx, it's the boring 5 door aerodeck. Which is neccesary for one baby and three dogs to be lugged around in.:ok:

I have one from powerflow, make sure you ask them to make it quiet, mine can be heard in the next county! Not exactly what I had in mind but an extra silencer would cause more grief with all the speed bumps round here!

It stops me driving too fast though,I darent rev it more than 2500rpm in town as I end up looking like a boy racer chav:}

Way back I used to make my own exhausts. Lengths of 2inch diameter COPPER piping was the starting point, together with a (two-inch bore) 'straight through' expansion box.
