amazed to see that it started at 5,000. Just imagine what would have happened if it hadn't been publicised (when was the last time you searched for Sea Harrier)? Also how many bids have been retracted\cancelled

No good to me - haven't flown the Harrier Sim in some 30 years, so I probably now couldn't remember how to fly it (I was pretty "carp" at it 30 years ago - jet-bourne was a real buggah!)

a snip at a quarter of a mill though;)

Nah! It hasn't got the bang-seat either. One needs a bang to get pigeons flying.

I know a guy who has stripped and transported at least two Harriers. Got the second one moved for nowt for telling another bloke which bolts to undo.

UK fighter jet sold on eBay

If you are in the market for a fighter jet, eBay may be just the place to start shopping, with yet another military aircraft changing hands on the auction site this week.

A decommissioned British Royal Navy Sea Harrier which is believed to have seen active service, was the latest jet fighter up for grabs and late on Thursday closed with a winning bid of 65,512 ($163,000).

A UK truck dealer called Keltruck based in the West Midlands listed the aircraft which has been fully decommissioned with engines and weaponry removed. It was stipulated on the listing that the jet "was for display purposes only".

The item was only available for sale within the UK to pre-approved bidders, and Keltruck could not be reached on Friday to determine what the winning bidder, identified only as "clmbgm," planned to do with their new acquisition.

While the original eBay advertisement said the jet had seen active service in the Falklands, a clarification on the listing read: "Decomissioned British military aircraft do not come with any history. It has been brought to our attention that this particular aircraft may not have served in the 1982 Falklands War."

In May, the Beijing News newspaper reported that a Chinese businessman had bought a MiG-21f plane from a US eBay seller for $US24,730 ($32,600) to decorate his offices.

The fighter jet, last flown in 1995, was described as being in excellent condition and the transaction indicated the plane was located in Lewiston, Idaho. At the time of the transaction, the Chinese buyer had yet to determine whether the plane could be imported into China.
