Just watched the Sunday morning News 24 programme hosted by Peter Sissions. Guests included Gen Jackson.

Jackson was more than happy to talk about the Israelis but deliberately ignored the (direct) question on the Telegraph article referring to the soldiers in Afghanistan being 'close to exhaustion' and Sisson's view that history has shown this country to something of a brick wall when it comes to western intervention. In fact, the General actually chuckled when Sissons read out a direct quote from a soldier on the ground calling the troops 'knackered'. Mind you, he redeemed himself (not) with a carefully rehearsed little speech in which he thanked all the soldiers and their families for their hard work. With that, he is off to his gold plated retirement where he will, no doubt, become yet another armchair expert rolled out by the media every time there is an incident/mistake made.

Stand by for the book.

More here. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5250168.stm) Glad I'm here and not there. At least there plenty of sand around for heads to be stuck into.

also in the Sunday Telegraph Col Collins saying

"..UK's helicopter fleet is exhausted...too small..operating in Iraq and Afganistan has taken a serious toll of the main components...there is a crisis in the availability of spares..and in the techinicans who fit them...pilots..are badly overstretched."

Still on a positive note - "I'm staying for another year at least vows Blair" :yuk:
