Im wondering if anybody has taken part in the Royal Navy Special Flying Award? If so can you tell me the ins and outsof being selected and what is done before you are offered a place.

Yes I will be paying a visit to the AFCO but time is tight at the moment and I would like to hear stories form some people who have been on it beforhand.

Thanks

To get selected for SFA:
Step 1- Go to AFCO, say you want to try for the RN Special Flying Award
Step 2- If they say yes, which they most likely will, go to RAF Cranwell, Lincs, to do the FATs Battery.
If you pass all three (Pilot, Observer and ATC in the RN's case)...
Step 3- Have interview with RN officer in charge of aptitude testing at Cranwell.
If he reckons you're a good bloke...
Step 4- Get medical; lungs, heart, cough test etc.
If you're medically sound, then get awarded the SFA.
And there you have it.
Good luck,
Alex ;)
