Hi Guys
I'm looking for some sound advice.
I have a SA CAA Twin Comm IF and need to "convert" it to a JAR licence for a potential position in the UK.
Can someone point me in the right direction to get information on obtaining my JAR Licence.
All help would be appreciated.

You're probably in for a ride !

Get in touch with Swiss and British FTOs (Flight Training Organisations, in EASA-speak). A Google search on "swiss JAR FTO" is already a good start.

Doing my JAR through Bristol. They specialise in distance learning and are very good! If you have 1500hrs in a multi crew aircraft then you just have to write the 14 subjects if not you need to actually doan approved crammer course before you write this is done at the bristol offices. If however you are lucky enough to have 1500hrs command in an aircraft over 30tons then you just have to write Law and Human performance however that will give you a restricted licence that only allows you to fly G- reg aircraft. Go to the Bristol site, send them an email and they should sort you out.

i hope you have done lots of contracts and saved all your money!

expensive exercise, have done it, but am now flying in europe on a nice little jet...

is it expensive, yes, was it hard, not really-but time consuming, has it been worth it>>>DEFINATELY!

If you hold a (legitimately) issued SA ATPL, and are prepared to do some studying again; I believe that you will find the JAA theory much easier to consume than the SA stuff. I did.

Having just completed the whole shibang all I can say mate is get ready to spend!!!!!!

Whatever the flying school tells you Double it and add a bit on on top as a safety margin and thats what its gonna cost you!!!!!!!

Another nasty little shock to me was that all your licences have to be current when you are converting the old rule was that you needed to have held an IR to do an instrument rating conversion the new rule is that you must have a current IR or else you have to do the entire IR course!!!! For me it was simply a matter of finding an FAA CFII. For you it might mean hopping back on the high flier back to sa to do your renewal (it all adds up)!!!!

The final shock came after all flight tests groundschool was done I went to hand in my Paper work to the UK CAA and would you believe they made me go and do an RT test another 70 pounds!!!!!!!!!!

Was it worth it? Its really too early to say one thing is for sure I have been able to put out lots more CV's if thats anything to go by then I'm thinking its a good start.

Bristol Groundschool was absouletly fantastic!!!!! They get the job done!!!!!
