It would have to turn back and then fly past Beijing for about 90+ minutes to land in Hong Kong.

It would be more like 3+ hours from Beijing to HK, but I can confirm there was a Finnair MD11 at HK on Monday, parked up at one of the Western remote bays. No rumours about why it might be there though.

Heard it was the Guangzhou to Helsinki flight, got a problem and landed at Hong Kong. Maybe someone knows more about the problem itself.

Apparently the crew had trouble retracting the landing gear after takeoff. After a missed approach to Beijing, the a/c made an emergency landing at HKG.

It was FIN088 ZGGG-EFHK. Arrived into VHHH, offloaded pax and towed straight away to HAECO.
