Hi,

As I understand it you can land in Battersea with a single engine helicopter. I was going to contact the CAA (as required) regarding landing at London Vanguard but am I wasting my time? It's a hughes 500c.....

any help much appreciated TD

Not at all, as long as it's a private flight. I went through this last year and Keith Thomas (01293 573528) was the man to contact then.

You need to fill in a Special Events and Unusual Aerial Activity Application (Form CA1757B) asking for exemption under rules 5(2)(c) of the Rules of the Air Regulations 1996 (as amended in 2005), and Regulation 2 of the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying)(Specified Area) Regulations 2005.

Vanguard is on OS Landranger Sheet 177 and grid reference TQ372786. You'll need to show you have contacts with police, fire, and ambulance services to notify them before you go in, and the ones I used were:

Police: Tower Hamlets Borough Police, Duty Officer, 020 7515 1212
Fire: LFB - Tower Hamlets, Barry Johnson, 020 7587 2940
Ambulance: LAS - Waterloo, Duty Officer, 020 7921 5197

Make sure you ask for an ANNUAL permission, because the CAA's £94 fee is an admin processing charge so it costs the same to ask for a single landing as an annual permission.
