Hernia found at class 1 initial

Hi,

I had my ATCO class 1 initial last week, and the Doc suspects me of having a heria. He has annotated this on the paperwork, will this stop me getting my class 1?

I am seeig my GP on Tuesday, and if given the all clear, will it just be a simple case of having him write a letter stating such, or will I have be to see down at Gatwick by the CAA Docs?

I'm no doc but from seeing a certain Friends episode and having a hernia before I can only recommend you get it operated on. It will only get more painful and will probably not mend itself. With an operation at least you can be sure it's sorted.

I don't have a Class 1 myself yet I never would of imagined it will jepodise my chances of obtaining one. Thus it may be problematic to you if you don't have it mended.

Your doc may too recommend an operation.

My AMI spotted an umbilical hernia and recommended I have it operated on before my next class one. Reason being it could be a problem during a depressurisation? It was very small and on seeing my GP he was somewhat bemussed as to why! Anyway, an appointment with a specialist was arranged, op done and out within a day. All I have now is a small scar.
On my next medical he went straight for my belly button to see if it had been done!

Just seen my GP, he reckons on up to 4 weeks off work. Can this be right. My AME doesn't reckon it needs seeing to urgently?

I had an inguinal hernia(left side of groin) a while back. Went to the British Hernia Centre in Watford and had it sorted under local anaesthetic. In at 2pm, out at 5pm after observation for a while. Yes it hurt like hell the next couple of days but the painkillers given were great. Walked a couple of miles that week. Next week I was back on a motorbike/driving a car. None of this 'six week recovery' stuff.

forgot to add, it did twinge every now and again for up to a year but this is normal.

Same here.

It is almost 12 months now since my op and I am now fully recovered!! Joking! Its no big deal, yes there is a good deal of pain for a few weeks after. You also have twinges here and there for a while aswell. Overall I would say it was a minor formality!
