Does anyone know if one of our crew has been stood down by JG because they refused to act as CM? It was in SEQ, so i hear.

Hmm. If it's true, it must be the week for it. I know of somoene else, not from the SEQ base who was stood down.

I know the union did something about this the last time it happened. Can't remember the details, but it was huge at the time.

I hope it hasn't happened again...you can't stand someone down for NOT doing a job they're not trained for, or willing to do, particularly when safety is concerned.

It's all fair and well for the company to say "Oh, but you know what the CM has to do"...yeah, but the current CM's are both trained and PREPARED to take the lead in any emergency situation. Some people just don't want that responsibility because they're not comfortable with the role.

A320,

Well if this is the case and you know this crew member, we have to do something about it!
You need to voice your opinion to your RBM and send emails to management. This is not allowed to happen. Reasonable Vs Unreasonable. A union directive. Remember.

Don't sit there idle. Do something. Get your fellow crew to do the same. Send emails to JG. We have to start taking action. Pounce on your RBM as a group and demand action to be taken.

I hope the FA who has been stood down knows her rights!

Please don't let them get away with things.

Nah it was a different set of circumstances.

Actually worthy of a standing down.

I cannot undetstand the big deal!, we are all trainred in how to perform in an emergency, what if the CM is taken out in an emergency ,does everthing just stop? I say if you cant follow written instructions and read a PA you shouldnt be a Filght Attendant.

In addition to their FA salary they get a minumum of 4 hours or hours worked at the CM hourly rate

The CM is responsible for coordinating the crew and passengers and liasing with the Flight Deck in an emergency, as well as taking the lead in a prepared emergency, for example.

Now...some FA's have the personal attributes necessary to pull off being a CM. Others are not so comfortable, nor able, to deal with the role. For that reason, they should not be put into a position where they are not comfortable with controlling BOTH the crew AND passengers.

There's nothing different with regard to operating doors, etc. What is different is the responsibility for managing the greatly increased workload associated with any emergency.

CM's, on a daily basis, do more and need to know more than most FA's give them credit for.

Sounds like good 'ol JG is up to her old tricks again.... the sooner the company loses that woman the better!!!!

Also makes me think though.... if someone like JG was ill for duty would they expect a crew member to fill in for her in her role??? I didn't think so.

A crew member who does not want the responsibility of being a CM has every right not to have to do it- otherwise they would have applied for that position in the first place!!:ugh:
Sounds just like the time when Cabin Crew were awaiting their response from JG and her cronies about their CM applications and they were asked to operate as CM (due once again to lack of staff) and after they had helped out in the CM role they were told that "sorry, but you were not succesful in the application process" - how convenient!!! Funny how they were good enough to operate for a few days in that role to help the company out of their mismanagement situation.........

Once again it is showing the inefficiencies of JQ and the lack of staff required to run the airline....... I see that things have not changed .......:=

I am an F/A ( AND HAVE OFTEN ACTED UP).
It is a shame that some crew seem to get their rocks off by slaging company management. I agree that some descisions made by management are not always well recieved by the Crew. However JETSTAR as a company strive for success and I believe have the interests of their workforce always in mind. I for one love my job and will also strive to maintain a positive out look and look forward to growing with the company. If I didnt have that out look I would leave and work in a department store as I did before flying.

Sheet,

And how long have you been with Jetstar?.....2mins? I'm sorry, please don't take offence honey, but you are obviously blinded by new enthusiasm still, if you haven't seen already the agenda this company has for the crew. You only have to look at the EBA for an example of that. Sure the job is ok, the crew are great to work with.....but management? Either you are one, or if not, you will soon see the light.

Safe flying

Just finished a day at JQ. The crew taking over the aircraft had a FA that was asked to be CM. She felt extremely uncomfortable in the position even though the rest of the crew were willing to help. She felt intimidated that if she did not accept that reprocussions would follow.

Once again we must reiterate. You do not have to accept the position if you feel uncomfortable. This is a union directive!

Please pass on.

Thanks.

AUCKLAND CREW ARE JETCONNECT, WORKING IN THE QANTAS UNIFORM AND WORKING ON QANTAS PLANES, 2 DIFFERENT COMPANYIES, JC IS QF'S LOW COST ARM. CHEAPER WAGES AND ALL THE REST OF IT.

I GUESS JUST LIKE JETSTAR IN CHRISTCHURCH, THEY WORK FOR JETCONNECT, NOT JETSTAR ITS ALL LOWCOST, KIWI CREW CAN EARN 23K PLUS WHERE JETSTART IN AUS GET OVER 30K. AND QANTAS MAINLINE CAN EARN ANYTHING FROM 60K UP TO NZ CREW 23K PLUS ALLOWANCES.

JQ crew earn a LOT more than $30K........
As an Lf you can get between $45 - 55 K if you do all live days and Draft twice a month

It is a shame that Jetstar management choose to abuse and be so horrible to such loyal and hardworking employees.

Of course you act up as CM. Pretty obvious in your posts just how 'keen' you are. I am glad you are so proud as to support the company. Do you have orange feature walls in your house and Magda cut-outs on the ceiling above your bed?

Yes, it included...

...then you clearly have no idea what the hell you are talking about...

As in the other deleted posts, there was nothing relevant to the original post, and nothing achieved except a raising of the temperature.

TightSlot thanks for the info, but I have to disagree with you re no relevance to the original post.... Crew being 'forced' to act up as CM is a problem in more than one airline here in Australia, and my post (granted, excluding the line you highlighted) was relevant to that fact

Dear my dear friend leane7...

If you dont like AKL, go home, simple as that! Its better that way anyway, than you spreading hopeless information on the forum, and asking questions that can be clearly answered by our manager in AKL if approached and to sum it up nicely are also avaliable in our work condition booklets!!!

Good luck with JQ anyway! And ill see you onboard, hope you are not one of the lazy ones that donot answer the call bells and are butchering the AKL base good, clean, hardworking name amoungst the Aussie bases!!!
