G'day

Just wondering if anyone knows what is going on at REX lately in regards to recruiting. Are many getting in and what sort of hours are being successful lately?

Cheers in advanced

interviewing soon, c.p on AL back soon, short of FO's, around 2000, 500 multi should be enough, hope this helps

i work mate said the other day that even if you have the required 2000 hrs and 500 multi etc, if you have an instructing only background Rex wont be interested in you.

Is this true, can anyone shed a little light on this.

Funny that. Rex appear to do more than circuits:}

how do they recruit? Hard copy cv's or over the net?

drshmoo, I think you will find that this very narrow minded attitide towards instructors is going to change in the very near future. Companies like REX will be looking for people with instructing backgrounds, especially CASR 61 about to come in with the requirement for All training and checking pilots to also hold an instructor rating :E
Its funny how as usual these narrow minded comments come from people who have never held an Instructor Rating!

If it's anything like NZCAR part 61, the airline will be able to issue an instructor rating (we call it a D-Cat) quite simply, in conjunction with the required training.

I do agree that it's narrow minded of an airline to not look at applicants from an instructing background though.

drshmoo,

Your continual slagging off of instructors is getting a little bit tiring! Why don't you throw your hat in the ring and have a go at a Rex gig?

P.S. Your girlfriend is hot

yeah, drshmoo. mines not current, but it was once.

And dito on what TL had to say.

I'm not sure if Rex would recruit pilots that have only instructed, I dare say they would want you to have at least some charter experience!!
From a personal point of view, I think if your still instructing with 2000 total and 500 multi command you should probably get out and try your hand at a bit of charter to increase your chances at any job!!:OK: :OK:
One last thing, instructing sucks, charter flying is much more enjoyable and a lot more fun!!

Rex is an awesome company and it looks like its turning into an old boys hang out for not only the uni boys but the Kununurra boys too. Hat won't be thrown in the ring for a fair while until I consolidate my own situation down here.

TL - Its great to see that such a soft gee up to the circuit heros can bring out all sorts from out of the woodwork ( yes ski guru, you included )

1INOP - Do you have any real experience or is it just instructing. Most of the best guys I have seen have had an instructor rating with some instructing experience and then got out and done some charter stuff.

Anyway no need for education of the circuit heros.:ugh:

very narrow minded attitide towards instructors
mate I will look into my attitide and my attitude
All in fun champ;)

Congrats on those that have made the grade and got into REX, enjoy the great training and flying

drshmoo :=

I have had a wide variety of both charter and instructing, and as someone who has already made it into the RH seat of a 737, I personally would much rather employ someone with instructing experience. The value of ME IFR instructing is under estimated by people such as yourself who know no better :{ I put it down to ignorance.

Believe me mate things are fast changing. Your so called 'Circuit Heros' will be conducting your interview and doing your check ride.

Anyway keep on with your REAL experience mate. You'll make it one day :ok:

Drshmoo, would love to get out of instructing and get into charter, where I actually get to do the flying rather than watch someone else, however with my time approaching the 2000/500 mark I think i;m going to be forever pigeon holed as an instructor. Have been all over the country looking for charter jobs, if I had $5 for every time I was told....."geez not another flamin instructor.........come back and see me when you have a couple of hundred charter hrs"........it comes down to the old saying......if u cant get the job how do you get the experiance.

sumtingwong
28th Jul 2006, 05:08
A mix of both is what you want. We are all aiming for similar goals.

nomorecatering, keep plugging away at the charter operaters, you'll get there.

But i'm just wondering, with 2000/500 you'd be looking alright for a charter gig. Not sure if this applies to you but most instructors tend to get the FIR rating and then stay in capital cities, they then wonder why they cant get the charter gig in the same city. The fella's that got thier CPL's and went bush for a couple, like our mate drsmoo, want to come back to the cities, these are the fellas that get the city CHTR gig's. Go bush mate, go bush!:ok:.

Drsmoo, was picking up a couple last night in the western desert. Old mate had stabbed his missus and then himself. Funnily enough in a lucid moment as the stretcher went on, he also told me......

Your gilfriend is hot!:D

i am not from rex but i have heard, if this helps

they like around 2000hrs, but i have heard of 1700hrs getting a interview.

500hrs multi, this is not negotible (obvious reasons!!!!!)
you may have instructor experience BUT

they want charter exp...with

some CABIN CLASS/ HEAVY TWIN time. so 500hrs on a dutchy wont do!

but as usual, just apply, cant hurt.

also can a new FO be based in Lismore? Is that a hard base to get?

E&H
28th Jul 2006, 22:59
Hoss, last position filled in Lismore was by a new hire, although usual to fill from within.

Duxnutz, training salary to begin with, then 1st year F/O is approx 40 grand and usually add 5-7 grand on top for allowances plus share bonus each year plus profit share which is substantial.

For recruiting and info visit their website and you will see recruitment is ongoing.

I have recently interviewed their Chief Pilot re pilot recruitment and their interview process so if any one wants more info pm me.

1INOP good for you buddy about RHS 737:D
If you actually read my post, you'll see we agree

Most of the best guys I have seen have had an instructor rating with some instructing experience and then got out and done some charter stuff.

And all this talk about circuit heros is a gee up. So no need to bite.:= Unless you wish to give me no end of entertainment

Your so called 'Circuit Heros' will be conducting your interview and doing your check ride.

They will probaly be doing my check flights but why on Earth would they be necessarily doing my interview?

Thanks for the Anyway keep on with your REAL experience mate. You'll make it one day Any little bit of help and support all counts:ok:

Would the Twin Otter be considered as good command time (500+)? I believe it is a Medium/Heavy Size Twin.... here in PNG anyway (done on how many seats)?

Cheers,
