Hello all, just wanting to see if there is anybody on here in the process of joining the RAF as a WSOP/transferring to Aircrew. I am a Civvy now but I am ex ground trade RAF and want to rejoin as Aircrew. I would like to find out how you are getting on with the process, if you have got as far as OASC and how it went, qualifications etc. I dont currently have GCSE Maths, but I have everything in place to begin a distance learning course to get the qualification, has anyone been in a similar situation and what was the position of the AFCO about continuing the process, ie, were you allowed to study for the qualification after OASC?

I will appreciate any constructive replies from people in my postition or anyone with experience in such matters.

Cheers.:ok:

You will need all of the educational requirments in place before you apply. Why did you leave in the first place? Why did you not just remuster to WSOP whilst you were still serving?

I made a rash decision after the white paper came out, which I now desperately regret. At the time I put my PVR in, against my Flt Cdr's advice, there was no re-engagement in my trade and promotion prospects were pretty poor in my posting. I panicked, having done 5 out of my 9 year engagement, and seeing mates in their 7th and 8th (who had not previously re-engaged) doing the same thing made me more concerned about my future. The worst thing about it all was that during my 6 months notice, re-engagement began again but the PVR process was well under way and I was informed (unofficially) that I could not withdraw my PVR. There are other circumstances involved, such as being unhappy with my posting (which I used to love) and thinking I could make more money in Civvy street anyway. I realise that this does not make good reading for people looking at someone who wants to join as NCA, but I realised pretty early on the mistake I made and what to do to try and rectify it. I just hope that these errors of judgement will not be an obstacle in my attempts to re-join, will they?:uhoh:

With regards to remustering whilst still serving, I had always wanted to be NCA and had been to p2 and spoken to a few people on the squadrons about doing it whilst at my first posting, and incidentally, being treated very well by them. But I got my posting to a tactical formed unit (which I Gen Appd for) sooner than anticipated and all the Aircrew aspirations had to go on hold, because, being on a Field Squadron then (and more so now!) means that you spend a lot of time away on either Exercise or Operations, Giving me minimal opportunity to study for the Maths. (Big up to the helpful civvies in the Learning Centre for all their help aswell, NOT) Im sure your heart must be bleeding by now Ratty, i'll leave it at that!
