hi all,

planning to apply for cathay's cadet programme but i would only have a HKID without 3 stars.

I have been told that this will allow me to work and live in HK but cant vote or be voted.

to apply for the cadet programme, do i have to have a HKID with 3 stars?

Basically, you have the right to abode (reside) if you were born in HK or lived there for more than 7 years continously. Check your old ID card and use the following link as reference.

http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/topical_3_2.htm

If your card doesn't have an "A" denotation, then you don't have a right to abode in HK. If you were born in HK and never bothered to get your adult ID card (meaning you only have a 1 star ID card), then give HK Immigration a call and have it sorted it out. I believe an individual on PPRuNe was in a similar situation. If I recall correctly, CX will only deal with you when your resident status is sorted out.

PS: Google is your friend.

Hi ppl.

Think you might be talking bout me Koyo. I had to return to HK to get an ID card before Cathay will even consider me.

As long as you were born in HK and your parents have the right of abode then the whole application process takes about 2hrs. After that you have to pick up your card or at least have someone designated to do it. If you're not born in HK then it gets complicated. Not entirely sure on that side of things but my sister is in that boat and she ended up giving up.

hey xsian,

my parents were born in HK and have got this stamp stating that i could live in HK and all the rest of it.

thing is, when i went to get my HKID, the woman processing my id says that i will get a card however because i have not been in HK for over 3 yrs in 1 period, i will not get a 3 stars card. really confusing.

by the way, did u get through for an interview?

Interview for Cathay or interview with Immigration? Have only just sent me app off to Cathay. Was going to wait longer but noticed that there was a closing date so in fit of panic I have sent it off. Had an interview with immigration when I went for me card.

Not too sure about the 3 stars thing. Just checked on my card and I have three stars but I never got asked how long I spent in HK in one sustained period. Certainly never had to prove my continous stay in HK anyway.

Sorry I cant be of more help.
