South African Airways profits drop 90%. Falling yields, low-cost competition and soaring fuel costs had a devastating effect on South African Airways' bottom line during the fiscal year ending March 31 as profits plunged 90% to ZAR65 million ($9.1 million U.S.). Domestic yield dropped 11% and international yield decreased as well. Capacity increased 5.6%, passenger numbers rose 4.5% to 7.2 million and load factor remained steady at 70%
