Sorry if this is old news but I heard today that a Bell 412 Griffon from the Royal Air Force's SAR School in Wales had a single engine failure whilst hovering next to a boat a few days ago. Don't know if they were winching to it at the time but I heard the crew handled it well and managed to fly out on the good engine. Just wondered if anyone in the know can shed any light as to the cause and single engine performance etc.

Moderators - feel free to move this to the mil forum if you feel it is more appropriate.

Cool weather, crew only, less than full fuel....some wind...sealevel...no real crisis probably.

Change that to Afghanistan, on the side of a mountain about 8000 feet, plus 30...crew and a couple of pax...weapons....CRASH!
