A320 vs B737 in Africa

I'm new to this forum and I'm not sure if this has been addressed in the past, but I keep hearing from friends of mine in Africa (Nigeria especially) that A320s will never do well there. What's the basis for this myth? or is it simply that operators are used to beoing aircraft? How did VK's A320s do out there? Thanks.

There is not a lot of EFIS experience among african pilots I guess, and even less Airbus experience (except for SAA).
