Hi all,

I have an interview on the horizon for one of the airlines in HKG.
I'm curious as to the process and complexity of doing a ICAO CPL license conversion, NZ issue, and was wondering if the whole process would be alot easier If I had an ATPL before I headed over that way.
Can any one explain to me the process and advantages and disadvantages of this?
And is it possible to be issued a HKG ATPL from a NZ or foreign CPL?

Secondly,

If all goes well, how easy is it for a Partner
(we are not married, nor have any immediate plans to, SSSSSHHHHHH!)
to find work in HKG?
(she is a corporate, with a degree, 3 years experience in her field).
What are the possibilities of finding work? do you need sponsorship?
are they any recruitment agencies that specialise in this sort of situation?
any help, (or) leads would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
PA31 Pilot.

CPL = CPL. I think you need to have your ATP writtens complete to get your 218 excemption status for ANY HK licence.

For your GF, she will not get a visa based on yours. She can find some other work, but it will be relatively low paying compared to NZ. My wife made 150K last year at home, in HKG she gets 35K a year....

PA31,

All correct as stated above but to be clear about the VISA thing, your GF will not have a VISA when she arrives. So she will have to leave the country every X days depending on her nationality. Australians it is 90 days but S.Africans it is 30 days.

She would have to get a job with a company that would sponsor her VISA and so have the restriction lifted.

Leaving the country is not too hard, either going to Shenzhen or Macau will do the trick. Although I know of a few people that have copped a hard time in Macau getting back in. The authorities are onto it. Shenzhen not so bad.
