Hello,

Does anyone know what the eyesight requirements for Cathay are?

Any specifics on the diaoptrics (or whatever it is called, the maximum measurements for glasses/contacts, ex: -3.5)

Hi, they do a rather in-depth eye test, but my eyes aren't great, in fact uncorrected I struggled to see the BIG LETTERS. I asked all thru the medical if any issues were a problem and the nurse and DR told me if it was a problem. If you have had your 1st interview, you will give your eye prescription for them to review and one would think that if yours was not ok you would not be invited to stage 2. The nurse said my eyes were fine BECAUSE they were correctible.

I've been trying to find this info also. The CAD doesn't seem to publish any information. Do they take the FAA/CASA approach that vision correctable to 6/6 is acceptable, or are there diopter limits? Anyone know?

It would be nice to know before putting in all the hard work, whether or not one would be precluded from getting a medical.

Don't do LASIK unless it is absolutely necessary. Dunno about CX but a friend of mine at KA doesn't have very good eyes and still okay. Get the OFFICIAL word from CX first. LASIK is not fail proof. Although rare, a small number of people have deteriorated night vision after the procedure.

I've had LASEK surgery, and was invited for CX interviews 9 months after the surgery.

They didn't seem to have a problem with it. I just had to supply an extra form which was filled out by my surgeon.

Each year for my medical renewal (at CX) I have to have a specialist do an exam, but it's not that different from what you do for the standard medical.

There's a similar thread over on "Fragrant Harbour," but I'll post it here as well...
I don't know all the vision requirements but I can tell you that PRK laser surgery is acceptable.
I had this procedure done and have had 20/40 uncorrected, 20/20 corrected vision since.
My hiring was delayed for a week while Cathay had me go for some further testing by an ophthalmologist, but the surgery in itself did not prevent me from getting the job.
I don't know about LASIK.

I had Lasik done 2 years ago and now I have the vision of a hawk. My night vision is far better than it ever was when I wore glasses. My vision was 20/100 before surgery, now I'm 20/15 with perfect contrast.

The new custom-wavefront lasik procedure is a leap forward, offereing greater surgery outcome success and NO side effects.

Best advice I can offer, do your homework and find the best surgeon around.

I had lasik 2 years ago, Cathay invited me to second interview, as it is directly asked question on the medical questionaire, they know about it, so I guess it is not a problem. Of course now I have 20/20 uncorrected with no limitations on my medicals. hope this helps.

To anyone who has taked the CX medical:
Do they screen for color vision? If so, do you know what requirements they have?
I hold both FAA and JAA class 1 unrestricted medicals, but I do have a certain degree of color division deficiency. I was able to obtain both medicals after extensive secondary screening, but after passing mnay different tests in different countries, and I doubt CX has any of these advanced screening equipment.
Any information is appreciated!

Talked to a guy who was unsuccessful on his first interview. He felt it was because of his color vision. He told them that he may difficulty passing some of their tests. At this, the interviewer made a displeasing facial expression and began the interview. However, sounds like you have already passed what you needed so long as you bring your documentation along, I wouldn't see (pun intended) it as a problem.

Anyone else?

I have 20/20 vision uncorrected in both eyes,however,i have a condition known as Eels disease (pronounced eyles), which basically means I had some leaking blood vessels in the eye,this leakage was sealed by laser 10 years ago and no further problem has arisen,however the condition that caused it is still there in a dormant nature.

Will this be a disqualifying factor in the medical??

Cathay sticks to the CAD class 1 requirement that given your eyes short-sightedness are correctabe 20/20, you will be fine.

Regarding colour vision, cathay accepts candidates who fail the "numbers on plates" test yet making it thru the alternative Lantern test. Good luck!
