Very boring question, but are any meals provided during training at LTN. Staying in a hotel for a month, not having a kitchen and therefor having to buy fastfood and restaurant food for a whole month will be very expensive.

Welcome to training.
I'd be very, very surprised if meals are provided - they certainly aren't at BA but there is a "subsidised" canteen.
I'd suggest getting a fridge from the hotel (most have small fridges they'll put in your room) and buying in stuff to make your own lunch (sarnies etc).
I was spending close to £20.00 a day on breakfast, lunch and dinner while doing my training with BA - it certainly makes a huge dent in your finances.

Pack a few Pot Noodles in your case, check with the hotel that they have a kettle you can use or facility in the hotel for hot water, check out the local area for supermarkets and takeaway joints.
Pack some cereal bars in case of an emergency (ie, lack of time to go out looking for food, midnight munchies, breakfast on the run, etc)
Take some fresh fruit and dried fruit which will last for the best part of the week, just to keep some nutrition in your diet.
Alternatively, grab a training colleague to go for a pizza after work.

Hello,
I called a while ago the training Department about the accomodation during the course.
It will most probably take place at the **** Hotel, next to Luton Airport.
I wonder whether the "shared rooms" are equipped with a kitchen because only the breakfast is included in the rate...
Is there any chainstore in the area ?

Not CC, but in my travels I've been in various situations where grub wasn't provided.
There have been some good suggestions previously in this thread. The easiest option is the fridge/sarnie one. If you're a long stay IE one month, then hotels are usually quite ameanable to little extras. You could even ask for a microwave, if you get one of those then you're away as regards hot grub. Don't do TV dinners etc, but omelettes, crunchy veggies, hot dogs etc etc.
If the breakfast is buffet style, then make use of a doggy bag for stuff like bread, bangers, tomatoes etc.....

There is an Asda less than 5 minutes drive from The easyJet academy, so you are best off going there and stocking up on some food. The chippy across from there is quite good too.

My other half works at EZY, the shared room was quite intimate, just your usual hotel room with TV and kettle. Everyone munched pot noodles for the course, the Ibis does meals but they're a bit steep and not that good. Your ID you get for training gets you a discount at the airport, you can also goto the Asda and stock up there.

easyJet will not be providing you with meals during training, but they do when you are flying. You may wonder why it's like that, well you can buy food on the ground quite easily, but you can't pop down to the local KFC when at 38,000 feet.
The Ibis has no cooking facilities in rooms whatsoever - it's a hotel (barely!) not a flat. You have to look after yourself on training when it comes to meals, so make sure you go to the Asda or the Whistlestop at the terminal and stock up on food stuffs.

Do EZY still use the Ibis for crew accom? I thought they had started using another one in the middle of nowhere? I can't remember the name, but I will find out.

Ok, the Ibis is normally used, but if it is full, then The Holiday Inn Express next to the airport is used. Hope this helps.

Do they give you any options to stay for the weekend? eg discount?
Going to DUB on the days off would be a bit of a nightmare.

If you want to stay at the hotel during your days off, you can. They charge a total of GBP160 for the entire 4 weeks. This is debited from your salary in monthly installments.

All these salary deductions :) Well I suppose the only other one would be uniform if I'm not missing anything else.

Tescos were selling microwaves for about £25. Why not get one to put in your room for the month. Will enable you to have a slightly wider choice of meals.

And just perhaps the hotel management will not like that, after all, you are burning their electricity as well as having a little potential fire risk in their building.
Before doing anything like in the suggestion above, speak to hotel management - but I suspect their answer will be a 'no'.

I'm sure a microwave uses quite a bit more. In any case, most hotels won't let you bring a relatively large electical appliance into your room.

If I remember correctly, there is a 'Whistlestop' shop in the terminal which does most of the important things you might need (toiletries, alcohol, pot noodles & sandwiches).
The nearest supermarket is the Asda, but that is at least a 25 minute walk from the terminal.

It's not a boring question at all - it's a problem we've all encountered at some stage - I certainly did.
I remember my first night gloomily eating a plate of smash and cold baked beans feeling very sorry for myself hoping it would be worthwhile (which it is!) I'm sure you'll be more imaginitive...!
I thought the microwave was a great idea but in a hotel it is very doubtful it would be permitted...a definate risk for a hotel (in my opinion no more so than smoking or leaving an iron on though?)
Anyway I would mention that you will make firm friends with people on your course (some might not be in the hotel and will be based and living there) and get invited out and also to peoples homes from time to time so you won't be eating in your room every single night.
Lunches and breakfast is easy as the other users have suggested.

I'm assuming all the rooms are non smoking? My roomie will probably kill me going out for a ciggie at all hours.
Any idea how many they're putting on each course these days?

Im off to stay in the big luxury hotel for 4wks in sept,:rolleyes:
im going to take a sandwich toaster, :D
Toast hot bean cheese crispy bacon bits (asda) cheep filling & yummy ,
anybody else going to be there in sept ? (i will share for a little help im going to nead it ) having a career change at 40 :eek:.
Toaster then hidden in case when cooled down & hidden from the hotel staff :ok:

Hi Guys and Girls...
Well I completed my training course. Woo Hoo!!! Groups are 20 - 30 at the moment. We were lucky enough to stay at the Holiday Inn, much better than the Ibis. The food situation ended up being a nightmare, and let's just say my body still hasn't recovered!!! Good luck, and hope to see you all out online...

The easyJet Academy has a kitchen area for students with microwaves and fridges. You can use these in the evening as well as lunchtime.
Asda supermarket is a 10 minute walf from the Academy, and the Luton Flying Club is a 1 minute walk, which serves hot and cold food.
Get friendly with someone who is going to be LTN based on your training course. Most of the LTN crew will live locally and have a car, so you can get taken out for dinner!!

I understand that the Academy also gives out lunch passes for the flying club (if you ask) that give you a discount and the food is good.:D

Yep I heard that one too. Not sure how true it is though. I start my training soon and have opted for accom at the hotel as I currently live in Leicester.

Quick update - the Academy do issue vouchers - 20% off main meals Monday to Friday. Only problem is a ham and cheese toastie or a bagel aren't considered main meals. It's not exactly a posh restaurant, reminds me more of a greasy spoon diner really.

my advice
breakfast is provided so fill up on it as much as you can
for lunch go across to the flying club at LTN (out the front door of the academy turn right past monarch engeneering on the opposit side of the road) its a bit rough and ready but the foods hot and cheap (exept at the w/e)
pizza, pot snot, or dinner out for the final meal
buy beer from asda/whistle stop and use a glass from the bar (pour it in your room not in the bar!) coz the beer is a rip off but remember the ten hour rule
