This one has been done before but unable to lacate the threads.....so

Is a call required when:

CTA/radar identified

Leaving a level after maintaining?
Maintaining a level once reached on climb?

OCTA/non radar identified
Leaving a level after maintaining?
Maintaining a level once reached on climb?

Jepp ref ATC AU-806 3.5.1.6......

I have discussed this with many an ATO/chief pilot/line driver and have had many varying and interesting answers.

Normally I would not give the call in radr identified space unless it may assist the ATCers. I do give the call(s) OCTA.

What do the ATCers req?

AIP ENR para 10.3.5 "Pilots must report maintaining an assigned level, unless ATC have advised IDENTIFIED" Doesn't make an OCTA/CTA distinction.

Cheers (and sorry for Jepps users, I don't have that reference)

AU-703 1.6.1 & 1.6.2

AU-801 2.1.3

AU-813 11.1

The answer may seem obvious given the above, but I have heard varying opinions on this one also.

-When OCTA and out of VHF range, do ATC require a maintaining and leaving call to be relayed through flightwatch on HF (in addition to taxi, departure, requesting traffic for descent and cancelling sarwatch calls)?

-If you are flying a short sector (OCTA and no VHF) and have been given traffic for climb cruise and descent, are the maintaining and leaving calls still required - since you have already been given traffic for the whole sector?

Obviously you would be monitoring the HF and broadcasting on area frequency throughout the scenario.

Cheers:ok:

Seems like there is agreement. Taken on board.

I give a call HF maintaining/left level OCTA and VHF(even when out of range)
