I'm looking at schools for my PPL and places to do my hours building until I've got the 150hrs for CPL, my question is this:

I understand I need 70hrs PIC before I can do MER, so assuming PPL takes 40 something hours of which none are PIC, that means I can be eligible to do MER after a total of about 110 hours.

Should I then do MER and make the hours spent doing it part of the 150 minimum hours before I start CPL? Or should I finish the 150 then do MER and CPL next?

Do I have to have separate MER ratings on my CPL and PPL? Or does one MER course cover both.

Also, does anyone have any school suggestions for multi-engine without breaking the bank and also without going cheap and nasty - willing to travel.

LF,

Firstly, some of your PPL hours will be PIC - you'll probably end up with about 20 or so.

One course will cover both your SEP and MEP rating.

Are you aware you will need to do the CPL theoretical exams before you can be issued with a CPL?

It;s a bit onerous to read, but all these details can be found in Lasors: Lasors (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/LASORS_06_WEB.pdf)

Finally, regarding schools, there are plenty, but if you're planning on going all the way, I'd put some serious thought into where you will look to all of the modules, not just the MER. And in this business, cheapest is by no means always the best!

Good luck with whatever you do!

WHat hours are required to start ME/IR without the CPL, have checked lasors but not found info, its far too ambiguous:=
