TOKYO — Japan Airlines Co (JAL) on Wednesday
started measures to strengthen cockpit doors in
airplanes in a bid to prevent hijackings in the wake of
the Sept 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
The measures include additional bolts to reinforce
cockpit doors on 159 airplanes owned by its six
group companies, JAL said. It is the first time a
Japanese airline company has taken such
measures.
