When a NAVAID is on STBY power is there any indication aurally that it is? I also wish to thank all those other pilots who have replied to my earlier posts.

There is usually a "dit" (E) during the pause between ident transmissions.

In the past some navaids were monitored by ATS units on the consoles while other navaids were monitored at specific times by ATS units by phone or radio. This was called “Pip Monitoring” and by listening to the pip codes radio techs of ATS personal could tell if any navaid in the group was on the secondary transmitter or standby power. Not all navaids were/are monitored

Technology has come a long way since I was doing this kind of work; I hope navaid monitoring may have benefited from some of this progress,

Hey Woom',

Isn't it a morse code "S"?

I heard it once at Hervey Bay and I'm sure it was a morse code S which meant Stand-by. I have been known to be wrong in the past. Just don't tell Mrs Ted...

I have to agree with Woomera. I've experienced a few NDB's on the coast on standby power over the years. They've all done the "E" thing.:E
