Hi,

If studying for the FAA ATP writtens, what's the US equivilant of JAR OPS? Is it the FAR/AIM book? I'm not sure which 'Part' number applies to commercial side of things?

Any takers?

Cheers,

IR

Irishrover - you might find these two websites come in handy. Which part of commercial side of things were you thinking of? Part 135 refers, generally, to non-scheduled ops, such as charter, whereas Part 121 is scheduled ops. That is a very basic division, there are more specifics, such as weight etc as well. Part 91 covers non-commercial ops, including non-commercial corporate flying, where the pilot is getting paid (so has to have at least a CPL), but the passengers are not paying for their seats.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah it looks like I'm looking for Part 121, that's what I thought, it's just these FAR AIM books I was seeing on the net, don't include it, must just be for general aviaiton. I initially thought I was looking for the wrong part.

I've got the ATP question bank from the FAA's site, can anyone suggest any good reference books to answer the questions in the bank?

Gleim or ASA both publish the complete question/answer books and CD-roms.

I've seen the Gleim books, I take it they are based on the FAA question bank?

They just seem to have the questions and answers, but not any syllabus type reading material. So I take it's a case of pretty much learning the question bank? Is that the way to go?

Have you used the search function available on these forums? There's quite a bit of information to do with your question.

Thanks for the above links, however, if everyone had to use the 'Search' fucnction there would be no new threads!

Back to the original point, is there an FAA OPS Part 121 book avail for purchase? Sure you can buy the ASA/Gleim question & answer books, but I'm not convinced in learning a question bank is the way to go.

Finally, I have over 1700TT, so I can sit the ATP written, do I have to do the IR written exam to get an ATP, or with the ATP written cover it?

Apoligies in advance for duplicating questions that may have appeared here in the past.

If everyone used the search function then these forums wouldn't have so many repetitive threads. Many people freely give their time to provide good information.

You might consider that next time you're too bloody lazy to be bothered to do a tiny amount of research before expecting answers to your questions.

I beleive the Gleim books at the way to go. That's what I used. It's pretty much a memory exercise. However I'm not advocating that as a way of passing exams.

Tinstaafl put the handbags away.
