max carry on size?

I want to find a bag and put a expensive fursuit (mascot head, body suit/tail, feet paws, and hand paws) into the over head bin instead of the cargo hold. problem is, it is a big suit, and I don't want it all matted and crushed, so it needs a little room in the bag. what is the max carry on size to fit in the overhead bin without causing problems getting in and out?

I only fly 737-XXX series aircraft, so maybe that helps some with bin measurements (southwest and westjet only)

Which airline? Many airlines' websites will give you their exact maximum permitted dimensions for cabin baggage.
