I was just wondering how many interviews the people that frequent this board have been to unsuccessfully and successfully.

Has it been a long and upsetting road for you .. or a very quick voyage to being made Cabin Crew?

Hello!

I was extremely lucky and managed to get into BA after my first interview for cabin crew. I think it varies quite a lot though - they explained at our interview that most cabin crew get in after their second or third attempt and it's not that they don't like you if you haven't got in first time but maybe you need more customer service experience, for example!

I know in my case they explained on the day that they score each individual on a points system throughout the day, and if you score above a certain mark you get in, and if you don't, you should try again. They explained to us that they have jobs for everybody as long as you reach their 'target' score!

Been to four interviews, all with different airlines (and was invited to one where I was unable to go :( ). I'm actually getting quite desperate and thinking of giving up the whole thing, at least for a while.
My friend works for one of companies I applied to. She got the job after second try and told me there are loads of people who have applied many times before getting in. So maybe there's still a chance for me too...
Maybe off-topic, but my biggest problem is that I really don't know what has been the reason I haven't even got to second round in interviews.

Im certainly not the best one to give you advice since i lack experience, but this is what i would do. I would try to anlayze these interviews... try to compare yourself to those who succeeded - what did you do differently... what did those people had in common (smth in appearance, attidute etc-etc). Its nothing wrong with being different, but also you could discover your "mistake" and learn from others. Also - which sort of people failed - any parallels between them? What do you think could have been fatal to you...

Just be positive - if you want the job bad enough - you will get it... eventually! Just keep trying...

I can echo what Lulu100 said, at least as regards BA. We also were told that there are jobs for everyone as long as they hit the target score....whatever that is. Don't give up! if you really want to do it then stick with it, even if you have to go away for awhile and gain a bit more C/S experience.
My first interview with BA was nearly 15 years ago and i know I wasn't really ready for it....but also they did have more stringent criteria back then such as a language and my Italian wasn't up to scratch. then i applied for United Airlines and got through the first 2 interviews which were bloody tough , only to blow it on the 2:1. I walked into the room and before my bum had touched the chair they said " so , tell us about Gary" :eek: i just blanked...completely. It was awful and from then on it was a downward spiral.

I decided to leave it some time before reapplying. I went out of my way to get jobs I really didn't want such as Barman, waiter, theatre manager, night club manager, anything that would put me right in there with all the horrors of the general public. And it paid off!

I know its frustrating, but if you want it bad enough then you will get it.
Go backover the questions they asked you,answer them in a different way and never rush your answers, don't panic, if you're not sure then say "Can I come back to that one" don't forget that they wan tyou to succeed, they aren't the enemy. Try to recall your body language during the interview...this, I think, was very important and i was told numerous times about it by CC friends. You MUST give the impression that YOU are in control, even if you're shaking like a leaf inside. Just keep your hands lightly in your lap or on your legs with all fingertips just slightly touching each other ( NLP tip..this indicates that you are in touch with yourself).

Also, and this really helped me, I bought a book titled...Brilliant answers to tough interview questions... by Susan Hodgson. Well worth the £9.

And look back through all the threads on here..they were invaluable to me.
Another way to help on the day of the interview is a bit of Hypnotherapy.
It's not for everyone but i'm biased as i trained for 2 years and qualified as a clinical Hypnotherapist!;) seriously, sometimes we only need to be in a slightly more relaxed state to allow our real self to shine through. I've helped lots of people with fear of flying and if you are open to it, it can really help interview technique by enhancing your delivery of answers and presentation.

Also, don't forget that you were good enough to actually be invited for an assessment - you were chosen out of many people who applied! You already have a foot in the door!

I was really lucky as I applied for Jetstar and got it first time! I feel so lucky and I know that for some it can be a long road to becoming a flight attendant. I love my job and I will (hopefully) be around for a while!!

So for those who are having trouble, dont give up! Its one of the best jobs in the world!!

It took me until my 3rd try before I got offered a cabin crew position. I got knocked back by Virgin and BA, then had interviews for First Choice, My Travel and Monarch around the same time and got offered all three (chose Monarch).

Hi Guys, I don’t post often but I really hope that this will show you that determination really will pay off for you if this is really the career that you want to follow.
I started seeking employment as crew from the age of 18. I applied to Ryan Air and I was rejected. I was young, over eager and not your stereotypical applicant. (Not that there is one) I didn’t have GCSE’s but held NVQ’s instead; I don’t speak a foreign language and I am unable to squeeze my foot never mind my a*rse in to a pair of 32” trousers. On the plus side I had known that this was what I wanted to do from a young age and I built up a good track record of employment in Travel Agencies and took my NVQ in travel and tourism, gaining me priceless experience of dealing with the general public.

Below is a list of the 21 interviews I have had with 19 different airlines over 4 years. (Maybe more as this is from memory)

The point I want to make is that if you really want it you will get it, I have been knocked back what many will class as a ludicrous amount of times, but I kept going and now I work for the company I wanted to work for from the start (although they rejected me 3 times before). I know it’s hard but in the long run you will appreciate your job more than the person who “got directly in” and the people I have flown with over the years who have tried and tried again to follow the career they wanted hold a greater value of their position in my opinion.
I really wish all you guy’s the best of luck when applying and I hope to fly / work with you guys one day in the future. :ok:

must have been the fact that all the previous interviews mentioned above I'd always get thru to the short list stage and then rejected so at my QR interview I was so nonchalant and relaxed as I thought I'd be rejected AGAIN..I couldn't believe It helped me pass..must have had DESPERATE on my face at the other interviews..either that or the more interviews you go to, the more you get to know what works and what doesn't and what to say and what not to say etc.

When I first applied to fly 9 years ago, I applied to 10 airlines and got accepted by the last 2 - I chose the one with the biggest planes! When all my friends started leaving I got on the same boat & applied to a company I'd never heard of (then) & wasn't too bothered whether I got in or not, so I got in. Stayed there another 5 & half years ( the end of my contract - they changed the contracts 2 months after I left - bit peeved about that - they must have known) went to another fun company, that booted hundreds of us out on 17th March 2003 (naming no names here!) Then got direct entry Senior/Purser/No.1 with another growing company and have been there ever since. Seeing more of Africa than ever!
Moto of the story keep trying and the right company will find U.

The best advice I can give anyone is to be super prepared. If you have answers prepared for all the questions then the 2:1 is the easiest part of the assessment day.

As some of the others have said, don't give up. A big part of it is having an interviewer who is on the same wavelength as you.

Both the jobs I've had as a flight attendant to date I got after the first attempt.

However, I tried with another airline 4 times, and made it to different stages each time. The third time I made it to the final stage, but the fourth time I didn't get past the first stage. This reinforces my belief that it is just as much about the interviewer as the applicant whether you progress to the next stage, because the questions and my answers were identical both times.

EAAFA -- I won't be giving up. Definitely not. Though it's interesting you say that it's a lot to do with the interviewer being on the same wave length as you. I had an awesome lady w/ Virgin Blue who was so warm and genuinely interested in me, who put me through to the big interview where again I felt I 'meshed' really well with the guy conducting that one. But unfortunately didn't get through to the next stage which was the medical. Oh well. I think that next year when I'm eligible to reapply for them I might do much better. [read: success?] I wish we could know why we didn't get any further, would be SO much easier to get a job, haha. But that's the way it goes.

My Jetstar interviewer was like a stone wall. No real interest, interrupted when I WAS answering properly.. and in the group activities you could so tell who she already wanted. I am unsure as to whether I'd try again with them.

Anyways; I've still got a few more airlines to try until Virgin next year.
