Does anyone have recommendations for books to use to study for UK IR?

I am after a decent one that shows rules/regs, principles of ILS/VOR etc, Met and other similar subjects.

Is there one good book that covers all this, or can you recommend a couple that will cover the content I need?

I have a current IR but need to brush up on the basics.

Thanks

SAR, a very good book on instrument flying is Jeppesen's "Instrument Commercial Manual" (see, for instance http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0884872742/sr=8-1/qid=1150278825/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9563809-6139130?%5Fencoding=UTF8)

It's probably the most detailed publication that goes through EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, as an American publication, it's heavily FAA-focussed and contains a lot of details on airspace and procedures that aren't really relevant in the UK. Nonetheless even for "JAA-only" flying I can highly recommend it.

If you want a more "gentle" introduction, you could try Rod Machado's "Instrument Survival Manual". Written in a funny and informative style, takes you through all crucial maneuvers at a meandering pace.

Then there's the Instrument Flying book out of the Trevor Thom series - highly recommended too.

Good luck,

KK.

The Rod Machado book is very good..very FAA, but well worth a read I think.

There is an excellent book called "Never Get Lost" by Wilhem Thaller
Very very good and very comprehensive

Tis a bit pricey, but i would definitely recommend it :ok:
( I got someone to buy it for me for Christmas ;) )
