AT OUR FLIGHT OPS DEPT WE ARE LOOKING AT A NEW CONTRACT FOR NAVIGATION AND AERODROME BAGS. I GUESS JEPPS HAVE THE BEST ELECTRONIC SYSTEM ON THE SHELF BUT THIS COSTS AN ARM AND A LEG!!
WHO HAS WHAT AT THEIR AIRLINE AND WHAT ARE YOUR COMMENTS ON ALL OF THE ABOVE SUPPLIERS. THEY ALL SEEM TO BE A MIXED BAG BUT WHO GIVES NOT ONLY THE BEST PRODUCT BUT QUALITY OF SERVICE IS A BIG PLUS TO US AND CHART QUALITY YOU CAN RELY ON. WHAT CHARTS ARE EASY TO READ AND HAS THE INFORMATION YOU NEED. MANY OF OUR CREWS SAY THE JEPPS ARE TO CLUTTERED AND HAVE TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON THEM. THERE'S NO THOUGHT GONE INTO THE CHART DESIGN.
JUST REALLY WANTED ANY POINTERS FOR STARTERS.
SEEN AERAD'S EFB SOFTWARE AND I THINK ITS MILES AHEAD OF JEPPVIEW????

leelea.

Most of my 15 years in aviation have been spent dealing with AERAD. The airline I'm with now used Jepps to start with but have switched back to AERAD. On the whole they're easier to use/read and amend. The products offered are more robust but I'm not sure on costs compared to the others. I revamped the AERAD system in Jersey European Airways as it was many years ago into tailored guides because the old system was in a mess. Can't fault them.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. Yep i think we're quite keen to look at Aerad. Do you know anything about Lido? Someone told me as long as you fly the Lufthansa network you're fine and the same for the Route Manual?
Are there any other suppliers on the market.
To be honest we're fed up to the back teeth with Jepps, quality of service and just the overall complaints from crews on the en-route charts.

leelea,

To be honest, I've not heard of the others so can't help you on that.

Sorry

Hi

Here we use the Lido charts, tailored for our airline, which just means we don't have airports in the books that we don't go to. We can get them for one off charters, but mainly we have most of what we want. The charts themselves along with the TAPs are quite a decent layout, no harder to read than any others. Having used Jepps, Aerad and UK Mil charts, I find the Lido not bad to use, certainley better than Jepps. Support is usually good, but then we have a Lido office less than 5 mins away from us, so it should be. They have missed the odd TAP but then so do all the companies, so no different there.
The paper used is tougher than Jepps, so is more durable, and much less prone to tearing.
Can't comment on the price, as the company pays, but can give you a contact at Lido for more info if you haven't already got it.

Worked in different airlines that have all used one or other product.

Much of a muchness, goes on cost, support and what you want from the product.

When I was at TV we used Jepps and I thought the charts were clearer than Aerad's but that was some time ago and Aerad's charts have got a lot better.

As I'm out of aviation I can't say I've used any of them to any great degree to make a fair judgement on them nowadays but have to say I prefer the Aerad charts now.

Using LIDO since a lot of years.
Probably the best Programm to buy.

Many thanks for the input everyone. I think we're keen to look at the Aerads again with the changes they've made but we might also look at possibly Lido as well but we've heard a few complaints about them. Also does anyone know what Route Manual is like. Never heard of it and don't want to take a risk with that if its not up to it!

Many Thanks

Leelea

Mornin,

Having used Jepps, Aerad and EAG, it would have to be a choice between the first two.

Aerad are probably the clearer and better laid out of the two chart wise, and most crew would seem to agree with that, but Jepps definitely has the better software. Colleagues rated Lido quite well, but I cant vouch not having used them myself.

I would avoid EAG..... ;)
