Advice for petite wannabe

I am half a centimetre under 5"2 which seems to be the common height requirement for most airlines, but I really want to be cabin crew.

Has anyone got any advice about which airlines to try for? Do you always get your height checked?

Anyone out there had any experience of this frustrating problem? If only I could stretch myself a bit!!

I don't know of any airlines that stipulate you can be any less tall than the standard height requirement.

Do you always get your height checked? -- At the recent recruitment day I went to [DJ] they didn't make mention of any height [even though we all know we must be of a certain height as stated on their applications] I assume they check this for sure if you're lucky enough to get to the medical stage. I don't know what would happen if you got that far and were found to be "half a centimetre under", whether that automatically means you're unsuccessful or not! :bored:

A half a centimetre seems so tiny a gap. I really hope this somehow doesn't prevent you from achieving your goals!!

You could always try for some of the smaller regionals, with the smaller a/c types they fly it may not be as much of an issue, so long as you can show you'll still be able to reach emergency equipment and so forth...

Being on the shorter side could be an advantage in say, a Brasilia or a Saab!! :D

:p Yes, we do always have height checked! However try some Asian Airlines,such as Japan Airlines...minimum required 158cm.I don't know your nationality but,if you're Asian,you should try;) Yokoso Japan!!

I'm having the exact same dilemma as you. I am literally no more than half a centimetre out and BA were having none of it.
I have since been for 2 more interviews, one with Virgin and the other with bmi. Virgin I didn't get measured but didn't make it through the first half, bmi, I got through the first part but not the second, but was not measured, so there is some hope.
I'm going to reapply for Virgin again in July and see what happens. I know what my mistakes were in the interviews so lets just hope my height doesn't get in the way.
I think it's really unfair given the fact that I have loads of experience in customer service and aviation and all I want to do is fly and it's not even the CAA making the rule, it's the airline that stipulates the height.

It would be good if we could stay in touch because it sounds as though we could be of help to eachother!:)

Half a centimetre is such a small amount surely you should adopt the old military maxim...

Chin up, Stomach in, Chest out, shoulders back.

Most people can gain a good couple of centimetres by standing properly rather than the modern slouch.

EK doesnt have a height requirement if you're interested im moving to DXB, there are plenty of petite girls:) :) I'm one of them:)

Good luck in applying, I'd let you in if I ran an airline.

If you can't get in, try Air Southwest (www.airsouthwest.com (http://www.airsouthwest.com)), LoganAir (www.loganair.co.uk (http://www.loganair.co.uk)) or Aurigny (www.aurigny.com (http://www.aurigny.com)) - not so glamorous destinations, but their planes are much smaller and actually require crew who are not so tall. I'm not sure what their minimum height is, but 6 months of reaching for bar boxes and pushing trolleys should make you grow half a centimetre!!!!! :O

Just had a look on Aviation Job Search and there's a new company called Silverjet starting up at Luton operation Boeing 767 aircraft to New York and other destinations with 100 business class flat bed seats.

Where is this going you may ask?

The minimum height is 5ft 2 inches. You could be in there! Lots of airlines tend to be 5'3".
